When Apple released the iPhone 7 without the possibility of connecting a classic headphone jack, part of the public panicked, despite the fact that the standard part of the package included a reduction from the jack to lightning. The announcement of the wireless AirPods was also not without an appropriately dramatic response. Despite the initial skepticism, AirPods have gained a certain popularity and a number of more or less admitted imitations.

Copycats are fairly common in this industry, and AirPods were no exception, first receiving a wave of ridicule and criticism due to their size and design. Huawei is among the companies that have started producing wireless headphones that look strikingly like AirPods. Vlad Savov, editor of The Verge newspaper, had the opportunity to try Huawei FreeBuds headphones on his own ears. The result is a pleasant surprise and satisfaction with the functionality, comfort and design of the headphones.

Let's leave aside the fact that such an important entity as Huawei decided to copy Apple, and to what extent it actually copied it. It is not a problem to get used to Apple AirPods, their design, size (rather small) and control method after a certain time. Additionally, by placing the Bluetooth antenna and battery outside the main body of the handset, Apple has managed to strike a balance between providing a clean signal and decent sound quality at the same time. Judging by the design, Huawei is also trying to do the same.

During the P20 event in Paris, Huawei did not allow listening testing of its wireless headphones, in terms of comfort and how they "sit" in the ear, there is nothing to complain about during a quick test. The FreeBuds stay exactly where they are meant to be without any problems, and thanks to the silicone tip, they hold even better and deeper. In addition, the deeper placement ensures more intensive suppression of ambient noise, which is an advantage that AirPods do not have.

The "stem" is slightly longer and more flat in FreeBuds than in Apple AirPods, the headphone case is a bit larger. Huawei promises twice the battery life per charge of the headphones compared to the competition, i.e. 10 hours of playback without having to place the headphones in the charging case. The case for the FreeBuds headphones is made of shiny plastic, in the closed state it holds reliably and firmly, and at the same time opens comfortably and easily.

Unlike Apple, which offers its headphones in the standard white color, Huawei distributes its FreeBuds both in white and in an elegant shiny black variant, which may not look so unusual in the ear - Savov is not afraid to compare the white headphones to hockey sticks. sticking out of their owners' ears. In addition, the black version of the FreeBuds does not look as flashy as the AirPods copy, which may be important for many users.

Huawei has set the price for the FreeBuds wireless Bluetooth headphones for the European market at 159 euros, which is roughly 4000 crowns. We will have to wait for a full-fledged review, but it is certain that, at least in terms of durability, Huawei has surpassed Apple this time.
