In the discussion of one of the previous articles, a question was raised about how to disable desktop sharing and backup to iCloud Drive in the macOS operating system. Now some of you may be wondering why users should disable desktop sharing on their Mac or MacBook. However, the answer in this case is simple – if you use 2 or more macOS devices at the same time, for example a MacBook Air at home and a powerful Mac Pro at work, desktop sharing can make a mess on both devices. So let's see together in this article how to disable desktop sharing and backup in macOS.

How to (de)activate desktop sharing in macOS via iCloud Drive

If you want to disable screen sharing using iCloud Drive on your Mac or MacBook, first move your mouse to the upper left corner of the screen, where you click  icon. Once you've done so, select an option from the drop-down menu System Preferences… After that, a new window will appear in which you can find all the preferences that you can use to manage your system. In this window, you need to move to the section at the top Apple ID. After clicking on this option, move to the section with the name in the left menu iCloud. As soon as all the elements are loaded, in the upper part near the box iCloud Drive click the button Elections… In the new window that appears, make sure you are in the tab at the top Documents. Here, you only need to use the option Flat and the Documents folder unchecked. Then press to confirm this choice Turn off in the displayed notification. Finally, don't forget to tap the button Done in the lower right corner of the screen. This will disable desktop sharing in macOS via iCloud.

In this preferences section, you can easily set all the data that is backed up to iCloud. So you can set up, for example, the backup of various applications or other user data. Of course, in this case it is necessary that you have an active extended storage package on iCloud for backups - you won't store much with the basic 5 GB. At the same time, you can disable Optimize Storage on Mac in this settings section. This function ensures that in case of low free storage in macOS, it sends some data to iCloud and deletes it from the Mac or MacBook. So, if you need to set any preferences that are related to iCloud, you can do so in this preferences section.
