With the current Apple TV 4K, Apple also introduced an improved Siri Remote, which is made of aluminum and includes a clickable circular router that seems to resemble the control element so typical of the iPod Classic. Although a nice upgrade, this controller has lost some of the sensors available on previous models that would have allowed users to play games with it. But maybe we will see its upgrade soon.

This is because the iOS 16 beta contains the strings "SiriRemote4" and "WirelessRemoteFirmware.4", which do not match any existing Siri Remote used with Apple TV. The current controller released last year is called "SiriRemote3". This leads to the possibility that Apple is indeed planning an upgrade, either independently or in conjunction with the new generation of its smart box.

No other details are given in the code, so nothing is known about the potential design or functionality of the remote at this time, nor does it confirm that Apple is actually planning a remote. The sharp release of iOS 16 is scheduled for September this year. However, if Apple is indeed working on it, what could it actually be capable of?

Games and quests

Without the accelerometer and gyroscope, owners of the new controller still have to get a third-party controller just to be able to fully play Apple TV games. It is quite limiting only if you use Apple Arcade on the device. Even if the previous controller wasn't great, at least you handled the basic games fairly well with it.

Probably nothing much will happen with the design, because it is still relatively new and extremely efficient. But there is one more "big" thing that was quite surprising when it was launched last year. Apple has not integrated it into its Find network. It simply means that if you forget it somewhere, you will already find it. Of course, Apple TV is primarily used in the home, but even if the remote fits under your seat, you can easily find it with a precise search.

The fact that this is a relatively required function is also evidenced by the fact that many third-party manufacturers have started to produce special covers in which you can insert the controller together with the AirTag, which of course allows for its exact search. Those who wanted to save, then just used adhesive tape. A very bold speculation is that Apple would actually do nothing and just replace the Lightning connector for charging the controller with the USB-C standard one. But it may be too early for that, and this change will probably only come with the same situation with iPhones.

Cheaper Apple TV already in September?

Back in May of this year, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the new Apple TV will be launched in the second half of 2022. Its main currency should be a lower price tag. However, Kuo did not talk more, so it is not entirely clear whether the new Siri Remote could be intended for this new and cheaper Apple TV. It's possible, but rather unlikely. If there was pressure for money, it would certainly not be worthwhile for Apple to improve the controller in any way, rather than cutting it down.
