With the arrival of the iPhone 11 series, Apple phones received a brand new component, namely the U1 ultra-wideband (UWB) chip. From the beginning, however, Apple was not very proud of this news, on the contrary. He pretended as if nothing happened. In reality, however, he prepared the main product from his portfolio for the early arrival of the Apple AirTag location tag. It is also equipped with an identical chip, which brings a very essential function. This is a so-called precise search.

AirTag as a location pendant, you just need to attach it to your keys, hide it in your bike, etc., and then you will see its location directly in the Find application. You will always have a detailed overview of its location. In addition, if the device is lost, a specific AirTag can discreetly communicate with other Apple products in the vicinity, which are also part of the Find network, thanks to which they send a signal about the last known location to its owner. So its role is clear - to ensure that the apple picker can easily find lost things. That is why we also find a built-in speaker.

However, the U1 chip is absolutely crucial. Thanks to it, it is possible to locate the device with incredible accuracy, which brought about the already mentioned precise search function. If you can't find the keys in your apartment, for example, then the location on Find won't help you much. Thanks to the chip, however, the iPhone can guide you to it, giving you precise instructions as to which direction you need to go and whether you are getting close at all. The whole thing is so reminiscent of the well-known children's game "Water itself, burning, burning! The U1 chip is now found in iPhone 11 and later (except SE 2020), Apple Watch Series 6 and later (except SE models), as well as AirTag and HomePod mini.

Easier to find your iPhone

As we mentioned above, the U1 chip can currently be used for precise searching, where you can easily and quickly find your AirTag with the help of an iPhone. However, quite interesting opinions appeared among apple users about how the precise search function itself could be improved even more. But it wouldn't hurt if you could use one iPhone to search for another iPhone. Of course, something like this brings with it huge privacy concerns.

Therefore, such a feature would only be available within family sharing, and it would be necessary to select the member/members who would actually have access to something like this. Although the potential feature may seem unnecessary to some, believe me it would be incredibly appreciated by many people. Different accidents happen everyday. When reading discussion forums, you can easily come across cases where, for example, a user lost his phone while skiing in the snow. But since the phone is covered in snow, it is extremely difficult to find, even when playing audio.

Finally, it might not be a bad idea to implement the U1 chip in other devices as well. Apple fans would most like to see it in their iPads and Apple TV remotes, some even in Macs. Would you like any changes regarding precision search and the U1 chip?
