Blocking phone numbers was one of the main requirements during iOS development. Until last year, the only option to block a phone number was through the operator, but the operator did not always comply. Until iOS 7 finally brought the coveted possibility to block contacts who bombard us with messages and phone calls for various reasons, whether they are annoying marketers or ex-disgusted partners.

iOS 7 allows you to block any contacts from your address book, this means that unsaved phone numbers from Settings cannot be blocked, the contact must be in your address book. Fortunately, this can be solved without filling your address book with unwanted contacts. You just need to create a single contact, for example called "Blacklist", into which you can insert multiple contacts, which iOS allows, and thus block, for example, 10 numbers at once. However, numbers outside the address book can be added from the call history, just click on the blue "i" icon next to the number and in the contact detail at the bottom select Block the caller.

  • Open it Settings > Phone > Blocked.
  • In the menu, click on Add new contact…, a directory will open from which you can select the contact you want to block. It is not possible to select multiple people at once, you must add each one separately.
  • Contacts can also be blocked directly in the address book in the contact details. To unblock in the list in the settings on the name, drag your finger to the left and hit the button Unblock.

And how does blocking work in practice? If a blocked contact calls you (even via FaceTime), you will be unavailable to them, and it will appear to them that you are still busy. At the same time, you will not see the missed call anywhere. As for messages, you won't even receive an SMS, in the case of iMessage, the message will be marked as delivered by the sender, but you will never receive it.
