Despite the initial skepticism, the new touch concept of the last generation of the iPod nano seems more and more interesting. You can wear it like a watch, and now it has caught the attention of the hacker community as well.
Apparently, to a certain one to James Whelton succeeded in hacking the iPod nano to gain access to the player's file system ie. Jailbreak succeeded.
According to him, the iPod nano firmware is a kind of hybrid between the original iPod firmware and iOS. In particular, the core from the previous iPod has remained, and another layer of software similar to that of the bigger brother iPod touch is built above it.
So what does the average person get by jailbreaking the iPod nano? So far, James has managed to delete one of the native icons and replace it with a blank icon. This in itself is not a terno, but soon we can expect applications, games, calendar or video playback, at least that's what the server says macstories.net. However, I would remain more skeptical, after all, all the API is missing and it is rather a modified iPod nano firmware than a modified iOS. In addition, the question remains whether it even makes sense on such a small display. We'll see how the hacker and modder community takes it up.

Is this an Apple fan site or a hacker site? It's the same JB!
but on apple devices :-)
Dan, if you haven't seen it yet, JB is not illegal or bad... Thanks to it, you can get not only stolen applications, but also applications that APPLE did not praise... All this... So JB does not always mean only applications for free... :-)
JB is not legal - try to take the iPhone under warranty with JB to the service center………….
JB is overloading the system!
I will be happy for the JB nano, I hope that the video will come, or applications will start to appear, it would be a great thing and competition for LiveView
It would be nice if He went to nano to perform JB. at least the full potential of the iPod would be used. ;-) :D (games, apps and video)
I think you didn't read carefully. A hacker got hold of the file system. That's all. In the editorial office, we are very skeptical about the uploading and functioning of applications. it is a different system than iOS.
I do not take the website linked by you as a source of gossip, let alone serious information.
Quote:
Discovered support for applications, games, videos, calendars and business cards! So it's only a matter of time before Apple releases a Firmware update and brings support for the mentioned things!
Do you believe that? What would be the point, why would Apple do this?
It may be a "forgotten" code from a previous firmware version. But support DOES NOT automatically mean FUNCTIONALITY of games etc. The hacker himself admits that the firmware …is a hybrid between the original iPod firmware and iOS.
Try to think a little. Does the iPod nano have RAM? What kind of games would it have to be to be able to play on a display of approx. 35x35 mm? And the video? What do you want to watch on it? How will you edit business cards or calendars?

:-) :-)
It could be a completely simple game... it doesn't matter... everyone has their own opinion.. and I believe that there is nothing worse than even nanos appearing on their own...
And as for this - "I don't take the website you linked to even as a source of gossip, let alone serious information."
I think it would just be a complete .-.-. he teased and spread gossip from lovers of the company and Apple products. No one slanders your website and you certainly wouldn't like it, so don't do what you wouldn't 100% like. That's all…
So you killed this one… :D
