When Apple introduced the brand new 2015″ MacBook with a different design in 12, it managed to attract a lot of attention. An ultra-thin laptop for ordinary users came to the market, which was a great companion for surfing the Internet, e-mail communication and many other activities. In particular, it had a single USB-C connector in combination with a 3,5 mm jack for possible connection of headphones or speakers.

In very simple terms, it can be said that a great device arrived on the market, which, although losing in terms of performance and connectivity, offered a great Retina display, low weight and therefore great portability. However, in the end, Apple paid for a design that was too thin. The laptop struggled with overheating in some situations, causing so-called thermal throttling and thus also the subsequent drop in performance. Another thorn in the heel was the unreliable butterfly keyboard. Although the giant tried to make amends when it introduced a slightly updated version in 2017, two years later, in 2019, the 12″ MacBook was completely withdrawn from sales and Apple never returned to it. Well, at least for now.

12″ MacBook with Apple Silicon

However, there has been extensive debate among Apple fans for a long time about whether the cancellation of the 12″ MacBook was the right step. First of all, it is necessary to mention that the laptop was really in need at that time. In terms of the price/performance ratio, it was not a completely ideal device and it was much more profitable to reach out to the competition. Today, however, it may be completely different. In 2020, Apple announced the transition from Intel processors to its own Apple Silicon chipsets. These are built on the ARM architecture, thanks to which they not only offer higher performance, but at the same time are significantly more economical, which brings two huge benefits specifically for laptops. Specifically, we have a better battery life, and at the same time unnecessary overheating can be prevented. So Apple Silicon is a clear answer to the earlier problems of this Mac.

It is therefore no wonder that apple growers are calling for his return. The 12″ MacBook concept has a huge following in the apple-growing community. Some fans even compare it to the iPad in terms of portability, but it offers the macOS operating system. In the end, it could be a high-end device with more than enough performance, which would make it an ideal companion for users who, for example, often travel. On the other hand, it is also crucial how Apple would actually approach this laptop. According to the apple sellers themselves, the key is that it is the cheapest MacBook in the range, which compensates for possible compromises with a smaller size and lower price. In the end, Apple could stick to the earlier concept – the 12″ MacBook could be based on a high-quality Retina display, a single USB-C (or Thunderbolt) connector and a chipset from the Apple Silicon family.

Will we see his arrival?

Although the 12″ MacBook concept is extremely popular among Apple fans, the question is whether Apple will ever decide to renew it. There are currently no leaks or speculations that would at least indicate that the giant is thinking about something like this. Would you welcome its return, or do you think there is no place for such a small laptop in today's market? Alternatively, would you be interested in it, assuming it would see the deployment of an Apple Silicon chip?
