The Apple AirTag locator is primarily designed to help us find our items. So we can attach it to, for example, keys, wallet, backpack and others. At the same time, the Cupertino company emphasizes privacy and, as it mentions itself, AirTag is not used to watch over people or animals. This product uses the Find network to find others, where it gradually connects to nearby iPhones and iPads and then transmits location information to the owner in a secure form. An apple grower from Great Britain also wanted to try this, and he mailed the AirTag to a friend and tracked it way.

Find an AirTag

Apple grower Kirk McElhearn first wrapped the AirTag in cardboard, then placed it in an envelope filled with bubble wrap and sent it from the small town of Stratford-upon-Avon to a friend living near London. He could then follow practically the entire journey through the native Find application. The locator's journey began at 5:49 in the morning, and by 6:40 Kirk knew his AirTag had left town and arrived at its destination within a few days. At the same time, the apple-picker had a perfect overview of everything and was able to monitor the entire journey practically all the time. To do this, he even created a script on the Mac that took a screenshot of the Find app every two minutes.

At the same time, Apple boasts several features that prevent the use of AirTag for unsolicited surveillance. One of them is informing the Apple user that he is carrying an AirTag that is not paired with his Apple ID. In any case, no one knows how long they have to wait for such a notification. Kirk mentions on his blog that his friend didn't see the aforementioned notification even once, and he had the AirTag at home for three days. The only thing my friend noticed was the activation of the loudspeaker with an audible warning. In this way, the locator alerts people around you of your presence. On blog of the mentioned apple seller, you can find a video in which you can view the entire journey of the AirTag.
