Samsung is betting on its old tactic – to squeeze in Apple ads. In the future, however, it could lose the production of chips for iOS devices. On the contrary, the head of Intel confirmed that his company's relations with Apple are at a good level...

Samsung would no longer have to produce A8 processors for Apple (February 17)

According to the latest reports, the Taiwanese company TSMC could completely take over the production of the new A8 processors from Samsung. Recently, Samsung has not met Apple's requirements with its 20nm production process, which is why it was already speculated last year that 70% of the production of chips from the A series would be handed over to Taiwan's TSMC. However, now this company could cover the production of all new chips. But the plan is to return to production from Samsung again, for the A9 chip, which should be introduced with the new iPhone in 2015. Samsung should supply Apple with 9% of the A40 chip, and TSMC would take care of the rest. The new A8 chip will most likely be introduced in the fall of this year together with the new iPhone.

Apple is preparing a fix for MacBook Airs that crash when waking up (February 18)

Complaints on Apple's support site indicate that many MacBook Air owners are facing the problem of system crashes when waking the computer from sleep mode. In order for MacBook users to be able to use it properly again, they must restart the entire computer after each such incident. From the users' attempts, it appears that the problem is caused by a combination of putting the computer to sleep and then waking it up by pressing any key or touching the touchpad. The problem is most likely in the OS X Mavericks operating system, so Apple is working on an update that should fix this problem. Several users have already confirmed that the OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 beta has indeed fixed the issue.

Samsung once again chose Apple as a target in its advertising (February 19)

After Samsung hit the airwaves with a hilarious and original ad for its Galaxy Gear watch, many might think it would stop with ads that directly compare Apple and Samsung products. But that didn't happen, because the South Korean company came up with two new ads that return to this old concept.

[youtube id=”sCnB5azFmTs” width=”620″ height=”350″]

In the first, Samsung compares its Galaxy Note 3 to the latest iPhone. The ad takes advantage of the iPhone's smaller display and lower quality image, all with the main character, NBA star LeBron James. In the second ad, Samsung teases the iPad Air. The beginning of the spot is an obvious parody of an Apple commercial, where the iPad is hidden behind a pencil the whole time. In the version from Samsung, the Galaxy Tab Pro also hides behind the pencil, on which the South Koreans once again claim better image quality and, above all, multitasking. However, Samsung is not the only one that uses Apple products directly in promotional materials. Amazon released an ad comparing the iPad to their Kindle. But many users despise this style of promotion.

Apple and Intel's relations remain good, the companies are getting closer (February 19)

A fairly extensive Q&A took place on the Reddit server with the current president of Intel, Brian Krzanich, who was also asked about how good relations Intel has with Apple. Intel has been producing processors for Macs for almost a decade, and the company's relationship with each other has undoubtedly been affected by such a long period of time. "We've always had good relations with Apple," confirms Krzanich. "We're getting closer and closer, especially since they started using our chips." Intel's president then explained to the readers that it was important for them to maintain good relations with their partners, because the success of the other party's products means the success of Intel .

Intel processors are in all Macs, but Samsung is responsible for the production of chips for iPhones. Intel refused to produce a processor for the iPhone after the first generation of the phone was released. So Apple does not use Intel silicon chips for its iPhones and iPads, but ARM type. However, Intel's partner company Altera is expected to start producing this type of processor, which has fueled speculation that Apple will switch from Samsung to Intel for the production of its A-series chips.

Apple took more domains, this time ".technology" (20/2)

Apple continues to buy up newly available domains, so the new domain ".technology" is now added to the family of ".guru", ".camera" and ".photography". The domains apple.technology, ipad.technology or mac.technology are now blocked by Apple. The gTLDs company has also released several domains that have different places in the name. Apple also targeted this group by purchasing the first domain apple.berlin, which is supposed to link to the flagship Apple Store in Germany.

Double verification for Apple ID has spread to other countries, the Czech Republic is still missing (February 20)

Apple expanded Apple ID double verification to Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy and Spain. The first attempt at this extension took place in May of last year, but unfortunately it was not successful and the double verification was withdrawn after a while. Now everything should work as it should, thanks to Apple's arrangement with local communication service providers. Apple ID double verification is an optional service where, after entering a password when purchasing goods, Apple sends a verification code to the user on a pre-selected Apple device, which iTunes or the App Store will require to complete the order. It is thus an alternative to the current system of security questions.
