MacBook Air makes up 28% of all Apple laptops (14/11)

There can be no dispute about the success and popularity of the MacBook Air, which is now confirmed by the statistics. While in the first half of this year the MacBook Air accounted for only 8% of all Apple laptops sold, the number has currently risen to 28%. A survey conducted by Morgan Stanley for NPD shows that sales of the MacBook Air were significantly helped by a summer update that added a Thunderbolt interface and Intel's Sandy Bridge processors to the thinnest laptop.

15″ MacBook Air should appear in March (14. )

According to suppliers, Apple has started shipping small volumes of components for the 15″ ultra-thin MacBook. It is not entirely clear whether it will be a thinner Pro version or a larger Air version, and it is also speculated whether the new laptop will have an optical drive. However, it should be a powerful machine, more powerful than the current Airy. Along with the 15″ version, there is also talk of a 17″ version as well as a possible “thinning” of the entire Pro series. All that remains is to wait until March, when these devices should appear.

Siri protocol has been hacked, any device or application can use it (15. )

Engineers from Applidium have pulled off a hussar stunt - they managed to hack the Siri protocol in such a way that every device and every application can use it. The only problem is that the Siri protocol creates an SSL certificate for each individual iPhone 4S, which is needed to sign the fake Siri server, which then allows Siri commands to be sent to the official servers. All devices that would use this server would then be identified as one specific iPhone 4S without a number limit.

This hack does not mean the automatic porting of Siri to other iOS devices using a jailbreak, however, iPhone 4S owners will be able to use the created tools to hack the iPhone and use the obtained certificate to implement Siri on another iOS device or computer. At the same time, developers can implement Siri commands into their apps if their apps also run on the iPhone 4S.

Arthur Levinson as new chairman, Bob Iger from Disney also on Apple's board of directors (15/11)

Arthur D. Levinson has been named the new honorary chairman of Apple's board of directors, replacing Steve Jobs, who held this position shortly after his resignation as CEO. Levinson has already been involved in the management of the company since 2005, while he was in charge of three committees - audit, managing the company's management and taking care of the payments. The audit committee will continue to remain with him.

Also appointed to the board was Robert Iger from Disney, where he held the position of CEO. At Apple, Iger, like Levinson, will deal with the audit committee. It was Iger who was able to re-establish cooperation with Jobs' Pixar, with which Iger's predecessor at Disney, Michael Eisner, had fallen out.

Developers are already testing OS X 10.7.3 (15/11)

Apple has released the new OS X 10.7.3 for developers to test, which focuses primarily on iCloud document sharing and fixes issues with some of Apple's native apps. Developers are to focus on errors that occurred in iCal, Mail and Address Book. Apple also warns that installing the test version of OS X 10.7.3 will make it impossible to go back to an earlier version of the system. For now, Lion's latest update 10.7.2 was released on October 12 and brought full iCloud support. The next version should obviously improve the cooperation with Apple's new service.

Apple developers are also addressing the reduced endurance of older MacBooks, where in some cases it has dropped by up to half after switching to Lion. Hopefully Apple will be able to improve this problem in 10.7.3.

The native Gmail app has returned to the App Store (November 16)

After a break of more than a week, the native client for Gmail has returned to the App Store, whose initial problems forced Google to withdraw the application. The problem was mainly in the notifications that didn't work. In version 1.0.2, however, Google fixed the error and notifications now work as they should. The handling of HTML images is also handled differently, which now adapts to the screen size in messages and can be zoomed in. If you have installed the first version of Gmail, it is better to uninstall it before installing the new one for proper functionality.

We have already written about the application <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>. You can download Gmail from App Store.

Will iChat also be on iDevices? (17/11)

iOS developer, John Heaton, has found some code that suggests that iChat, known from Mac OS, could be made available on all iOS devices in the near future. You may have heard or read about these messages before, especially when iOS 5 introduced iMessage, which is essentially a mobile iChat, but as the saying goes: "Never say never."

As you can see in the attached image, the codes found clearly show some support for AIM, Jabber and FaceTime. Essentially, Apple could integrate IM support directly into iMessage, but as you may have noticed, FaceTime and AIM are separate parts of iChat. But 9to5Mac spoke to several iOS developers, and they're a little more skeptical: "The codes found may not be part of future new features in the new iOS version."

This may mean that in the future we will see a unified application for contacts in the address book, your FaceTime contacts, which would be stored together with your contacts on AIM, Jabber, GTalk, Facebook and other networks. That is, we will not need many applications for several functions, which will save us a lot of space and many other applications on the desktop, and we will work with only one.

Isn't that a beautiful idea? The beautiful vision of unification according to Steve Jobs?

Apple pulled its own Texas Hold'em app from the App Store (17/11)

Remember the Texas Hold'em apps that were one of the first to hit the App Store when it launched in 2008? It was the only game that Apple ever released for iOS, and although it was quite a success, they resented it in Cupertino and have now canceled it altogether. The last update was released in September 2008, since then Texas Hold'em for 4 euros was gathering dust in the App Store and now it is no longer in it at all.

Texas Hold'em came before the App Store, debuting on the iPod in 2006. Only then was it ported to iOS and it was speculated whether Apple would put a little more effort into the gaming industry. However, it is now clear that this will not happen. Although Apple has not released any information as to why Texas Hold'em was removed from the App Store, we will probably never see it again.

What does a typical user who buys an iPad look like? (17/11)

The demographic picture you can see below shows what a typical future iPad user, i.e. potential buyer, looks like. It is based on a study by the marketing company BlueKai, which tried to create a kind of profile of a typical future iPad user, i.e. its future owner. So who buys the iPad?

The firm said in the study that it is "highly likely" that people with 3 main features will buy an iPad. They are men, pet owners, and video game buyers. Among the most common occupations of people who also buy iPads are scientists, healthcare workers, international travelers, apartment dwellers, or supporters of organic food. The company also stated that people buying vitamins, businessmen, married couples and university graduates were also high on the list.

The folks at BlueKai have created this interesting infographic that lays out the above findings across several data points, including several other points from other research firms. For example, comScore reported that 45,9% of receiving tablet users belong to households earning $100 a year or more, while Nielsen found that 70% of iPad use is while watching TV.

Although the numbers provided by BluKai and others are unrelated, some of them show specific iPad usage. For example, Apple has certainly noticed a large use in medicine, where the touch screen and many new applications related to medicine make this work easier. In addition, the tablet is also used by international and domestic travelers, for whom the tablet is a lightweight portable device.

The growth of the gaming world for iOS can also explain the fact that iPad owners very often become video game players. A recent study found that iOS and Android currently account for 58% of portable gaming revenue in the US. These two platforms accounted for only 19% of the global market in 2009, while in 2010 they already accounted for 34%.

George Clooney as Steve Jobs? (18/11)

Časopis NOW brought the information that in 2012, a film about the story of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Inc., will begin filming. And there are two Hollywood actors in the running for this role: 50-year-old George Clooney and 40-year-old Noah Wyle.

The two star in NBC's healthcare drama ER, where they act as doctors. George Clooney as Dr. Doug Ross starred from 1994 to 1999, while Wyle starred as Dr. John Carter from 1994 to 2005.

Rumors surrounding Noah Wyle's performance are based in part on the fact that he already has experience in the film with the interpretation of Steve Jobs Pirates of Silicon Valley, from 1999. As you may know, this movie is about the development of personal computers and the rivalry between Apple and Microsoft. The film starred Anthony Michael Hall as Bill Gates and Joey Slotnick as Steve Wozniak.

Shortly after Jobs' death in early October, Sony acquired the rights to make a biopic based on the book by Walter Isaacson. The book went on sale this month and became an instant bestseller and is already among the best-selling titles of 2011.

More rumors surrounding the filming of the film surfaced in late October, when Aaron Sorkin, the award-winning screenwriter for The Social Network, mentioned it. At the time he was working on this film, he stated that he was "thinking about such a project".

Sorkin was also honored for Mr. Wilson's Private War, The American President, and Moneyball. Sorkin also knew Jobs personally after he left Apple as CEO to work at Pixar, the animation studio Steve Jobs sold to Disney for $7,4 billion in 2006.
