Apple plans private celebration of Steve Jobs' life (10/10)

A few days after Steve Jobs left the world of the living, the current CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, sent an email to all employees of the company regarding the planned event to celebrate the life of a person, the likes of which are born only a few in the entire millennium.

the team

like many of you i have had the saddest days of my life and shed many tears over the past week. However, I found some comfort in the incredible amount of condolences and tributes from people all over the world who were touched by Steve's personality and genius. I also found solace in telling and listening to stories about him.

While many of our hearts are still heavy, we are planning a celebration of his life for Apple employees to remember all the amazing things Steve accomplished in his life and the many ways he made our world a better place. The celebration will take place on Thursday, October 19 at 10 a.m. in the outdoor amphitheater on the Infinite Loop campus. More information will be shared on AppleWeb as the date approaches, as well as information regarding arrangements for non-Cupertino employees.

I look forward to your participation.

Tim

Less than 19 million users intend to switch from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4S (11/10)

According to the latest surveys, 18,8 million people who own an iPhone 3GS plan to upgrade to the latest iPhone 4S next year. Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster believes most users who bought the iPhone 3GS before the iPhone 4 model was discounted will switch to Apple's latest generation phone next year.

Munster estimates that there are just under 28 million users who are ready to switch from the iPhone 3GS. The analyst calculates that with 25 percent of those users already buying the iPhone 4 and 15 percent switching to Android, that leaves 18,8 million users who will buy the iPhone 4S.

Box.net offers 50 GB for free (12/10)

Box.net, a service not unlike Dropbox that makes it easy to share and store data in the cloud, has come up with an interesting event. And mainly for all users of Apple mobile devices, i.e. iPhones, iPod touch and iPads. Box.net wants to give them 50 GB of space on its servers for free, and above all forever. Most likely, this is a reaction to Apple's recently launched iCloud. And why not take advantage of it, right?

All you have to do for it is that you you can download it for free from the App Store official application and then register for free. The whole thing won't take you more than a minute. For the record, I'll just add that you can only use the promotion for the next 50 days, after which Box.net will only give away the usual 5 GB of space.

Apple will have a week off at Christmas (October 13)

Apple has had a very productive and significant year. The sales numbers were record high and several major products were launched – iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iCloud, iOS 5, Siri and OS X Lion. Steve Jobs also died at the same time. Because of all this, Apple's new CEO Tim Cook has decided that all employees will get a paid week off during Christmas.

the team

I am honored to go to work every day alongside the most innovative and dedicated people. Working at Apple is extraordinary and we have achieved everything through our incredible efforts.

We've had a record year so far, and we're heading into the holidays with our strongest product lineup ever. Customers absolutely love iPad 2, and iPhone 4S will have the best launch of any iPhone we've ever made. OS X Lion sets new standards, and on its 10th birthday, iPod continues to be the world's most popular music player.

In consideration of the hard work we have done throughout the year, we will be taking an extended paid holiday over Christmas. We will be off on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of December to spend the whole week with our families and friends.

Of course, vendors and some others will have to work during this week as well to satisfy our customers. But if you are one of them, make an agreement with your manager about time off that you can choose later.

I hope you all enjoy this well-deserved break.

Tim

iPhone 4S disassembled down to the last screw (October 13.10)

The well-known "disassembly" server iFixit took the latest iPhone model under its screwdrivers this time. Thus, speculations about the RAM size were confirmed. Before the launch of the iPhone 4S, all the most famous servers agreed that this device would contain 1 GB of RAM. However, they were seriously mistaken - the iPhone 4S has a memory module with a capacity of 512 MB. Are you disappointed? Don't be. The iPad 2 also has an operating memory of the same capacity and works more than well. The iPhone 4S is thus its smaller brother.

Steve Wozniak in line for iPhone 4S (14/10)

One of the biggest icons of the apple world, Steve Wozniak, stood on October 14 with other iPhone buyers in line in front of the Apple Store in Los Gatos. Comfortably in his chair, sipping diet Dr. Pepper handled mail on his iPad and enthusiastically took photos with fans and signed their iDevices. As Steve Wozniak stated in an interview with CNN, he could easily call Apple and have the iPhone 4S sent by mail a few days in advance, but he didn't want to deprive himself of the atmosphere that waiting for the iPhone brings.

"I wanted to get mine along with millions of other fans," he said. "I just want to be able to talk to my phone," Wozniak continued, referring to the Siri voice assistant, which is one of the biggest draws of the new iPhone. Steve Wozniak is no stranger to queuing, for example last year he didn't hesitate to stand in one while waiting for the original iPad.
