TSMC reportedly agreed with Apple to supply A8, A9 and A9X processors (24/6)

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has reportedly reached an agreement with Apple to supply future A8, A9 and A9X chips for iOS devices. TSMC should start producing these processors with 20nm technology, then switch to 16nm and end with 10nm technology in the future. So far it has manufactured Samsung processors, starting in 2010 with the A4 chip, however Apple is fighting a constant and never-ending legal battle with it and is said to be looking for a new supplier. The Californian company has already eliminated Samsung from the production of displays for the iPad mini, and now the Koreans could also come to the production of chips. So far, an agreement between Apple and TSMC has not been reached due to the fact that the Taiwanese manufacturer was unable to secure a sufficient number of processors. However, according to the latest reports, the two sides should already reach an agreement. But the question remains whether TSMC will have exclusivity or will share production with another player.

American Airlines replaced flight manuals with iPads (June 25)

American Airlines is the first major commercial airline to ditch heavy flight manuals in all of its planes and replace them with iPads. The move is expected to result in annual fuel savings of more than $16 million. American Airlines began testing iPads alongside flight manuals in April, and now the paper manuals, which weigh around 777 kilograms, have been replaced entirely by Apple tablets. iPads can now be found in American Boeing 767, 757, 737, 80 and MD-XNUMX aircraft. In addition to weight, iPads also have other advantages over paper manuals – for example, it will now be much faster to update on-board documents.

"Our Signature" Ad Gets Bad Ratings (27/6)

When Apple introduced a new ad during WWDC titled Our Signature, die-hard fans of the apple company applauded and some even remembered the legendary Think Different campaign. However, the new spot is not so successful among the general public. Of the 26 ads Apple has released over the past year, the Our Signature spot earned the lowest score, according to consulting firm Ace Metrix. In the Ace Metrix scoring system, the ad with the subtitle Designed by Apple in California scored 489 points, which is below Apple's average of 542. In addition, recent campaigns even scored over 700 points.
At the same time, Apple started to promote this advertisement in the press as well, where it also printed the text from the mentioned spot in addition to the illustrative image over two pages.

Apple could unify the input for SD cards and USB (June 27)

A new Apple patent reveals that the company is actively working on combining SD card and USB ports into one. If Apple succeeded, it could theoretically be the size of a MacBook Air, for example. The combination of an SD card reader and a USB port would mean not only removing one port from the outside, but also several components inside. The image below is only illustrative, it is not yet clear what such a port might look like.
