The medical experts department at Apple is growing exponentially. Only the sovereign Amazon is better than Apple in online sales, while Apple attracts customers with older iPhones to exchange them for new ones in brick-and-mortar stores...

More and more medical experts are coming to Apple (5/5)

According to Tim Cook, Apple will introduce a device in a completely new category in 2014, but no one has officially confirmed that they mean the iWatch. But Apple is constantly hiring new people from biotech companies, so it's clear where the company's focus is headed. And even if the names of companies like Masimo Corp or Vital Connect probably do not mean anything to the uninitiated, all such companies from which Apple draws employees are focused purely on the medical field. An unnamed executive from one of the companies recently met with Apple's biomedical team and learned that the California-based medical company has bigger ambitions than just using them for wearables. He says he could develop a whole new platform that would be similar to the App Store. First of all, Apple has Healthbook ready, which should appear in the new version of iOS before long.

Apple donated 500 dollars to fight poverty (5/5)

Apple donated to SF Gives, a non-profit organization that fights poverty. SF Gives has set itself the goal of raising a total of $10 million from twenty major American companies by Wednesday. Apple donated 500 dollars to SF Gives, Google, Zynga and LinkedIn also contributed. The donation follows a series of charitable moves that Apple has made in recent years. The largest of them was the partnership with Product (RED), thanks to which he already contributed 70 million dollars to HIV/AIDS programs in Africa. In collaboration with Product (RED), Apple sells several accessories with the color red, such as the case for the iPhone or the Smart Cover for the iPad.

Apple is number two in online sales, led by sovereign Amazon (6/5)

Apple's online sales have grown significantly over the past three years. Although the ranking compiled by Internet Retailer is dominated by Amazon with an incredible 63 revenue of $2013 billion and an annual growth of 20%, Apple managed with its annual growth of 24% and sales worth $18 billion (3,5 times less than Amazon) to overtake Staples in second place, whose annual growth has been only around 1% for a long time. One factor that accounts for Apple's success is that in previous years Internet Retailer only counted revenue from iTunes and App Store sales, but now includes the Apple Online Store.

Zane Rowe, head of North America business, leaves Apple (7/5)

The reason for Zane Rowe's departure is not entirely clear. One possibility is that Rowe was not satisfied with the choice of Luca Maestri for the position of CFO, which the head of Apple's business in North America could have a crush on. Another possible exit is a slight decline in sales of Apple products in North America in the last quarter, while sales in other regions increased. Doug Beck, head of business in Japan and Korea, will now add Rowe's former work to his responsibilities and will also take care of the North American business.

Apple regains first place in customer satisfaction survey (7/5)

At JD Power, they conducted the third survey focused on customer satisfaction with tablets. Apple received a five-star rating and 830 points out of a possible 1. Right behind him was Samsung with 000 points. The survey is based on 822 surveyed users. Apple beat its competitors in four out of five categories: performance, ease of use, features and design. But iPads were not in first place in the price category. What is interesting, however, is that overall people are less satisfied with tablets than they were in 2, when JD Power conducted their first survey. The greatest decrease in satisfaction was recorded in the category of ease of use. Compared to 513, tablets are more difficult to use and their setup is said to be more tedious. According to those interviewed, the most important factor when choosing a tablet is price, followed by function, but also brand reputation.

A big campaign for the exchange of old iPhones was launched in Apple Stores (May 9)

American customers have started receiving emails from Apple tempting them to exchange their older iPhone models for the new iPhone 5s or 5c. iPhone 4s owners received the first emails on May 8 with the tagline "It's the perfect time to upgrade." If customers bring their iPhone 4s to an Apple Store for recycling, they will receive up to a $199 voucher from Apple toward the purchase of the latest model. For the iPhone 4, customers will receive a voucher worth up to $99. Advertisements urging customers to upgrade also appear in Apple Stores themselves. The call to exchange and recycle old iPhones is just one way Cook plans to use to increase the percentage of iPhones bought directly from Apple Stores. This currently stands at 20%, so 80% of all purchased iPhones are sold by third-party merchants, primarily carriers.

A week in a nutshell

Although many long-term employees are leaving Apple, such as Katie Cotton, who worked for Apple for almost 20 years, or creator of iMessage and FaceTime Andrew Vyrros, Apple shares are still rising and after a year and a half crossed the $600 mark. From June, however, their price will be seven times the price. In June, the closely watched Angela Ahrendts will be working at Apple for the second month, who during her first week she got a starting bonus and oversees the aforementioned event at Apple Stores. California company another significant boost, Nokia's Pureview camera expert Ari Partinen.

A week after the court's decision, the compensation amount was recalculated, but it remains the same, so Samsung will still have to pay Apple pay nearly $120 million. The two companies also together owns 106% of mobile profits.

Last week we also focused on what's behind the discount on the new MacBook Air and we introduced you to the plan of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, which will present the award to Jony Ive for lifetime achievement.
