Apple Removes Standard OS X Update Due to Bugs (5/1)

The transition to the latest OS X 10.7.3 did not go well for Apple. Lots of users are reporting the CUI issue where all apps crash right after launch. After investigating the problem, Apple decided to disable the standard update instead and offered only a combined one, which takes up several hundred megabytes more and can only be downloaded through Apple website. On the other hand, the combined update does not contain the annoying bugs that cause apps to crash in OS X 10.7.3.

HTC proved Apple right, it was still early for LTE (February 7)

Energy efficiency? Need to place the chip somewhere? Very poor 4G coverage? Until recently, none of these facts prevented American smartphone manufacturers led by HTC from pointing out the absence of LTC chips in Apple products. However, the lack of 4G support was clearly not a problem for buyers, so iPhone sales are still skyrocketing, while HTC slumped 26% last quarter. So it admitted that switching to LTE so early was a mistake that will soon be fixed and will wait until 4G is available - according to Apple maybe already this year.

At the same time, developers have the task of sending images from their applications to the App Store in a resolution suitable for Retina displays. All this indicates not only the end of applications with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels, but also the apparent early end of the iPhone 3GS. As the last Apple phone sold, it does not have a Retina display.

Apple worked with Wolfram Research, the company behind Wolfram Alpha, to develop Siri to offer customers the ability to calculate or search for more complex queries. As the iPhone 4S spreads around the world, so does the use of Siri, which now accounts for a quarter of all access to the smart tool. Wolfram Alpha now serves 200 employees.

The pilot is suing the airlines, he didn't get an iPad (February 8)

Virgin Australia's first officer, David Kloster, is suing his employer for nearly $2009 million. He allegedly failed to effectively provide flight manuals and information for the flight, resulting in Kloster's back injury while carrying an approximately eighteen kilogram bag. According to him, these documents could be directly on the plane or in electronic form on the iPad. He says he suffered the injuries after boarding a bus with a heavy bag in December XNUMX. He is now seeking a sum of money to cover anticipated monetary losses, medical expenses and other costs.

The only problem is that Kloster's injury happened in late 2009, while the iPad didn't go on sale in Australia until May of the following year.

Siri will learn Japanese, Russian and Mandarin in March (8/2)

According to a Chinese website Donews should the voice assistant Siri, present in the latest iPhone 4S, learn three new languages. To the present English, German, and French should be added Japanese, Russian, and Chinese, or Mandarin dialect, if you will. Apple also promised that Spanish, Italian and Korean should be added to Siri's language equipment in the future. It's understandable, because the company wants to expand to as many countries as possible with its voice assistant. There will be more and more languages, quite possibly even our picturesque country in the heart of Europe. Everything is only a matter of time, Siri will certainly appear in future Apple devices, it will not be limited only to the iPhone 4S.

Apple is now worth as much as Google and Microsoft combined (9/2)

Apple shares seem to exist outside of the global economic crisis. They again reached a record high of $493,42 per share, and the company's total value rose to a fabulous $460 billion, further cementing its position as the leader in the stock market and the former most valuable company Exxon Mobil left far behind with a lead of over 60 billion. When you add up the combined value of the second and third largest companies in information technology, Microsoft ($255,9 billion) and Google ($197 billion), this is less than the total value of Apple. Although the Apple company could not buy both companies, it has "only" a little over $100 billion in cash, but Apple's growth is still admirable.

According to the FBI, Steve Jobs was not suitable for the job in the White House (9/2)

The White House considered hiring Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 1991 during the George Herbert Walker Bush administration, newly released FBI documents show. Documents it has 161 pages, contains extensive documents about Jobs' life and was requested by the newspaper under the Freedom of Information Act Wall Street Journal. As a result, we learn more about this visionary from his official biography written by Walter Isaacson.

However, it is possible to find many interesting comments from the investigators of the time in the document. Although their names have been redacted, we learn from their words that Steve Jobs was "sneaky" and that he has "questionable moral character." Another commenter is also very apt: "Mr. Jobs is only honest as long as it lasts."

Although the investigation did not play very well in Jobs's favor, he eventually got a certain position in the US government, namely in the Department of Commerce as one of the advisers to the president on trade policy. However, his work was not intensive, the members of the export council met only a few times a year, moreover, this position was not paid.

Apple Store workers accept petitions for better conditions at Foxconn (February 9)

On February 9, a little over a dozen protesters came to sign a petition created by Change.org and SumofUS, which has already been signed by more than 250 people. Both organizations are calling on Apple to improve working conditions in the factories of overseas suppliers, especially in the most famous Chinese supplier, Foxconn.

CNET reported that despite the importance of the event, the number of attendees was not that high. He even stated that those who cared about the event were more present than those who came to protest. Apple Store employees received a large box in which the signatures of those interested in better employee care were attached. In addition, the protesters announced that the same call for signatures will also be delivered to stores in San Francisco and will go global when it reaches stores in Bangalore (India), London (UK) and also Sydney, Australia.

Currently, it is difficult to say whether the protestors had clothes made in the USA, or whether they will continue to protest with other well-known brands. Among such brands that work with suppliers that have cheap labor abroad can be included Best Buy, Walmarts, Gamestops, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, Dell or Hewlett Packard.

White MacBook officially buried (February 10)

The white MacBook is definitively disappearing from Apple's portfolio. Since last July, this portable computer has been available only to educational institutions, now Apple has informed retailers that the white MacBook will stop selling completely. However, the "educational" offer does not end there, Apple immediately replaced the white MacBook with a 13-inch MacBook Air, which it offers for schools for $999. This means that this 13-inch MacBook Air, which will only be available to educational institutions, is just as expensive as the base 11-inch MacBook Air. Apple offers a model with a 1,6 GHz Intel i5 processor, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of flash memory in a package of five ($4, about 995 crowns), ten ($95, about 500 crowns) or twenty (11 dollars, about 399 thousand crowns) pieces. AirPort Extreme and a cart with a built-in charging base are also included with the other two mentioned packages.
