Unfortunately, the holidays also affected our editorial staff, so Apple Week and Application Week are not published until today, but you can still read a lot of interesting things, for example about lawsuits with Samsung, news in the App Store, the Amazon phone and more.

According to the court, Samsung's tablets do not infringe Apple's patents (July 9)

There are a lot of patent wars around Apple, but the result of the last one is worth noting - the British court decided that Samsung's Galaxy Tab does not conflict with the design of the iPad, according to the judge, Galaxy tablets are "not as cool" as the iPad.
The Galaxy tablets do not use a design registered by Apple, Judge Colin Birss said in London, adding that customers had not confused the two tablets.
Galaxy tablets "don't have the extremely simple design that Apple has," Birss explained, not forgiving himself with the rather peppery comment: "They're not as cool."

Birss made this decision mainly because of the narrower profiles and unusual details on the back of the Galaxy tablets that distinguish them from the iPad. Apple now has 21 days to appeal.

Google Pays a Big Fine for Its Actions in Safari (10/7)

In February, it was discovered that Google was bypassing users' privacy settings in mobile Safari on iOS. Using the code, he tricked Safari, which could send several cookies when visiting a Google website, and thus Google made money from advertising. However, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has now slapped Google with the largest fine ever imposed on a single company. Google will have to pay 22,5 million dollars (less than half a billion crowns). The code used by Google was understandably already blocked in Safari.

Although Google did not threaten users in any way with its actions, it also violated Apple's previous commitments that users can rely on the privacy settings in Safari, i.e. that they will not be unknowingly tracked. Once Google pays the fine, the FTC will close the matter for good.

Amazon is said to be testing a smartphone that could be produced this year (July 11)

At the end of September last year, Amazon presented its first tablet Kindle Fire. It enjoys great popularity in the USA, which is why it is number two on the market there - behind the iPad. However, after half a year of sales, its sales began to decline, moreover, it recently received a serious competitor in the form of Google Nexus 7. However, Amazon wants to expand its territory to other waters and is reportedly already testing its first smartphone, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

It should contain a modified version of the Android OS, just like the bigger brother Fire. The WSJ further claims that the device is currently in the testing phase at one of the electronics manufacturers in Asia. The display should reach a size between four and five inches, other specifications such as the frequency and number of processor cores or the size of the operating memory are not yet known. The phone should be available on the market at the end of this year at an affordable price (similar to the Kindle Fire).
