A new and spectacular Apple Store will rise in San Francisco. Google has significantly reduced the prices of its cloud storage and could provoke Apple, which in turn destroys Chinese ideas that only cheap smartphones are sold there...

Apple gets the green light for a new store in San Francisco (11/3)

Construction of a new Apple Store in San Francisco's Union Square can begin after Apple received approval from the California city's planning commission and city council. The new store will be located just three blocks away from the existing Apple Store. But according to many, it could be even more iconic than the Apple Store in Manhattan. Its sliding front door will be made of huge 44-inch glass panels. The new Apple Store will also include a small square for store visitors.

"We are excited to finally get the green light from the city. The new plaza store will be a wonderful addition to Union Square and will also provide hundreds of jobs," enthused company spokeswoman Amy Bassett. "Our Stockton Street store has been hugely popular, with 13 million customers passing through it in nine years and we are now looking forward to opening another of our branches," Bassett added.

iTunes Radio is the third most popular service of its kind in the US (11/3)

According to a survey by Statista, iTunes Radio is the third most used streaming service in the US. iTunes Radio was followed by Pandora with a dominant 31% market share, followed by iHeartRadio with 9%. iTunes Radio came in third place with an 8 percent share, overtaking services such as Spotify and Google Play All Access. The survey also found that 92% of iTunes Radio users also use Pandora services at the same time. At the same time, the popularity of Apple's streaming service is rising the fastest of all three winning services, so it is possible that iTunes Radio will overtake its competitor iHeartRadio already this year.

However, it is necessary to note that the research is based on the answers of only two thousand people, so it is very doubtful to compare this result to the 320 million inhabitants of America. Apple plans to expand iTunes Radio to more than 100 countries, and unlike its competitors, its work is facilitated by already existing contracts with Universal Music Group and other record companies thanks to the widespread expansion of the iTunes Music Store.

Google has reduced the prices for its cloud storage (March 13)

Google's new storage prices are on average 7,5 times lower than Apple's. Saving your data on Google Drive will cost you as follows: 100 GB for $2 (originally $5), 1 TB for $10 (originally $50), and 10 TB for $100. Meanwhile, Google customers have to pay for storage on a monthly basis. With Apple, customers pay annually as follows: 15 GB for $20, 25 GB for $50 and 55 GB for $100. It is a paradox that users of 64GB iPhones cannot even back up all their data. Google is also more generous in giving away space for free. While everyone gets 5GB from Apple, Google gives its users 15GB.

iPhone 5C ad on Yahoo and New York Times (13/3)

Apple most often promotes its products using TV or print ads, but it decided to take a different approach to promoting the iPhone 5c. Yahoo launched animated ads with 8 different interactive themes. The focus is on the 35 colored wheels that form the Apple cover when placed on the phone. In the ad, the combination of a white iPhone with a black cover created apparent camera flashes with the slogan "Catwalk", while the wheels of a yellow iPhone with a black cover created Tetris cubes with the somewhat dubious slogan "Please try again". You can see all 8 different combinations on the Yahoo site. The ad was also placed on the New York Times server, but it was probably taken down from there.

In China, Apple is extremely successful with iPhones (March 14)

The common claim that only cheap smartphones are in China has now been debunked by Umeng, which analyzed the smartphone market in China for 2013. According to it, 27% of smartphones purchased were over $500, and 80% of them were iPhones. China's smartphone and tablet market has nearly doubled in the past year, from 380 million devices at the start of the year to 700 million at the end of 2013. Apple now sells the iPhone 5S in China for $860-$1120, the iPhone 5c for $730-$860, and the iPhone Customers can buy the 4S in China for $535. It is remarkable that Apple managed to have such a huge market share in China when in 2013 it did not even have a sales contract with the largest Chinese telecommunications service provider, China Mobile. But China Mobile has been selling Apple products since January 2014, so it is likely that the share will increase even more.

A week in a nutshell

The number one event was in the past week the release of the expected iOS 7.1 update. The new mobile operating system brought significant acceleration to all devices as well as bug fixes, however at the same time changed the behavior of the Shift key and on some devices it even drains the battery more significantly.

It was held for the first time on United States soil this week itunes-festival, after which Eddy Cue also looked back. Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services he admitted that Apple wasn't sure if they should move the festival to their home ground at all.

In the ongoing case of Apple vs. Samsung we learned that both parties appealed the final judgment, and so the first case will continue. The European Union has introduced additional measures to in the future, mobile devices used only one connector, and probably microUSB.
