The annual billion in Apple's coffers from Google, the problems of the Czech band with iTunes, the success of the iPhone 5 or the compatibility of Google Glass with iOS, these are just some of the topics of today's two-part Apple Week for the 7th and 8th week of 2013.

Google pays Apple a billion a year for the search engine in iOS (February 11)

According to Morgan Stanley analyst Scott Devitt, Google pays about $75 billion a year to remain the default search engine on iOS. Moreover, this amount should increase in the following years. Devitt believes that Apple does not have a profit-sharing agreement with Google, however, everything evolves from device to device. For every dollar Google makes on iOS, 13 cents goes into Apple's pocket. This may seem like a relatively small amount compared to Apple's total revenue (more than XNUMX billion in the last quarter), but it's a pretty substantial gain for Apple not having to lift a finger. In the coming years, Google should pay even more than it does now, but according to Devitt, it's still a good deal for the search giant. After all, paying roughly a billion dollars a year for a monopoly on the most lucrative online market in the world is good business, and Google will probably get a quick return on the investment.

Apple makes more from iTunes and accessories than most phone companies (12/2)

Analyst Horace Dediu of Asymca took a closer look at Apple's latest published numbers and found that iTunes and accessories combined make the apple company more than most of its competitors make on phones. The only exception is Samsung. Dediu was based on results for the most recent quarter, in which Apple generated more than $5,5 billion in revenue from iTunes and accessories. Not even Nokia, Motorola, Sony, LG, Blackberry or HTC could earn that much on phones. Additionally, Dediu predicts that iTunes may soon become Apple's third most profitable business. iTunes overtook iPods two years ago, and since they're growing faster than Macs, they may even overtake the PC division. Even Microsoft does not reach the aforementioned profits of Apple when they combine earnings from Xbox and Windows Phone phones.

During the robbery at the Apple Store, the thief broke the glass doors for $100 (February 18)

In the Colorado Apple Store, they experienced a rather paradoxical situation - the apple store there was robbed, but much more damage than the stolen products was noticed at the glass doors. Apple has them made to order and they cost about 100 dollars (just under two million crowns). However, thanks to the broken door, the thief got access to MacBooks, iPads and iPhones, which he took for a total of almost 64 thousand dollars (about 1,2 million crowns). Apple has so far been unable to track down the perpetrators, and the products are expected to appear on the black market soon. However, the law in Colorado allows if the perpetrator is caught and the products are found, they can be taken from the new owners, even though they may not have known that they were stolen.

iPhone 5 is the best-selling phone in history (February 20)

According to figures from Strategy Analytics, the iPhone has become the best-selling phone in history. According to the analysis, Apple should have sold 27,4 million of the latest iPhone 5 in the last quarter, thanks to which it was easily placed at the top of the list, followed by the iPhone 4S, which sold a total of 17,4 million during the last three months of last year. Third place went to Samsung with its Galaxy S III, which sold 15,4 million units.

“The iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S accounted for 4% of all phone sales in Q2012 20. This is admirable given the high prices of iPhones,” said Strategy Analytics CEO, Neil Mawson.

Censorship of the Monkey Business booklet in iTunes (February 21)

With a somewhat tabloid headline: Monkey Business banned from iTunes. The band replaces the severed head with a ball, iDNES.cz informs about how the band came across their booklet in the Apple digital store.

"We were told by iTunes that either we change the cover or the record will not be offered because it violates the rules," said Michal Koch, who is in charge of digital sales at Supraphon, which publishes Monkey Business.

Anyone who knows American conditions and Apple and its strict rules is not surprised; iDNES.cz is wondering.

Czech band Monkey Business was forced to change the image on the cover of their upcoming album Happiness of Postmodern Age thanks to Apple's rules. On the left is the original with a human head, on the right is the version intended for the iTunes music store.

Google Glass will also work with iPhone (February 22)

Editor-in-Chief The Verge, Joshua Topolsky, had the opportunity to personally try Google Glass, smart glasses from Google, which will serve mainly as an accessory to the phone and allow, for example, to record video or take photos. However, the glasses will not be exclusive only to Android, it will also be possible to connect them to iOS devices via bluetooth, similar to a smart watch. Google expects Glass to go on sale later this year for less than $1500, the price at which developers could purchase a prototype from the company.
