We are in the middle of the 35th week of 2020. Time is flying by - in a week the summer holidays will end for all school children and it can even be said that Christmas is just around the corner. Even today, we have prepared a traditional IT summary for you, in which we jointly focus on the news that took place in the world of information technology over the past day. In recent days, there has been a legal dispute between the game studio Epic Games and the company Apple - even in today's summary, we will focus on the dispute, even if only marginally. In the next news, we will show you the first gameplay from the Mafia remake, and in the last news, we will talk more about how certain connections with Chinese servers appeared in the TikTok application. So let's get straight to the point.

Apple players will not enjoy the new season in Fortnite

If you've read at least one IT summary in the past few days, you've most likely come across information related to the dispute between the Epic Games studio and Apple. The game studio Epic Games, which is behind the currently most popular game in the world called Fortnite, has grossly violated the rules of the App Store. Epic Games has decided to add its own direct payment method for purchasing premium in-game currency to Fortnite for iOS. However, this is expressly prohibited, as Apple takes a 30% share of each purchase within its App Store. Applications or games can therefore only offer purchases through the payment gateway from the App Store, or simply cannot offer purchases. It turned out that Epic Games had planned this situation in a way - after Apple removed the Fortnite game from the App Store, the aforementioned studio filed a lawsuit against the apple company, due to the abuse of a monopoly position. In the following days, it became clear that this tactic did not work very well for Epic Games.

Epic Games wanted to ensure that Apple does not take a 30% share of Fortnite purchases. Of course, the Californian giant did not logically side with Epic Games, instead it got even tougher. In addition to pulling Fortnite from the App Store, he also threatened that Epic Games would cancel the developer account within the App Store. This wouldn't be such a problem if the game studio didn't develop its own game engine, Unreal Engine, on which many games are built and thousands of developers depend on it. Yesterday, the court allowed Apple to cancel the studio's developer account in the App Store, but said that this cancellation must not harm the Unreal Engine in any way - in the end, the developer account will not be canceled. As part of the trial, Apple then stated that it is ready to welcome Fortnite back into the App Store with open arms. All Epic Games studio needs to do is follow the rules, i.e. remove the unauthorized payment method from the game, and besides that, an apology would probably be in order. So everything depends on the studio Epic Games, and unfortunately it seems that there is no end to this case at the moment. Epic Games stated in its FAQ that the new season will not be available on iPhones, iPads and macOS devices.

Specifically, Epic Games stated the following: “Apple continues to block Fortnite updates on the App Store and in addition does not allow us to continue developing Fortnite on Apple devices. Due to this, Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 (v14.00) will not be available on iOS and macOS starting August 27th. You can still play Fortnite on Android devices, where you just need to download the Epic Games app, or you can find Fortnite directly in the Samsung Galaxy Store [You can no longer find Fortnite in Google Play, note. ed.],” says Epic Games in its FAQ. It looks like Epic Games simply won't budge, and that we'll have to wait for the court's verdict, which should come sometime in September. Personally, I think that this Epic Games "campaign" against Apple is simply meaningless. The Epic Games studio is already in a disadvantageous position, in addition, Apple offered an option to allow Fortnite to return to the App Store, and Epic Games did not use it. So everything points to the fact that Epic Games will lose this dispute, and that it will have to adapt to the original conditions anyway.

The first gameplays of the new Mafia have been released

If you're an avid gamer, you've most likely played the original Mafia game as well. Fans of this game have been begging for a remake for so long that they finally got it. Currently, the development of the Mafia remake is coming to an end. Originally, the remake of Mafia was supposed to be released in these days, but the studio 2K Games said a few weeks ago that it is necessary to postpone the release of the game to the public. So the public will see the Mafia remake in less than a month, specifically on September 25. However, some YouTube gaming channels have already been given access to the Preview Build of the game and have been given the opportunity to record an hour of gameplay. If you already want to see what the Mafia remake looks like, just watch the video I'm attaching below. However, if you are really looking forward to the new Mafia, I recommend that you hold off and wait for the official release and for the first time you see the game with your own eyes. Are you looking forward to the Mafia remake?

Information about Chinese servers appeared in the TikTok application

TikTok is currently in danger of being banned in the US - that is, if the American part of TikTok is not bought by an American company in the near future. Microsoft is most interested in the American part of TikTok - that's what we're talking about informed already in one of the past summaries. As such, TikTok also defended itself against the ban by saying that all its servers are located in the United States. However, two security researchers were able to find that within the TikTok application there was certain information about the Chinese servers that were supposed to be used. Specifically, this information was discovered already in July. However, as part of the latest update, this information about Chinese servers is no longer in the application. TikTok stated that this was simply a bug that was found while simplifying the application. So it's hard to say where the truth lies.
