The iWork office package has been available as a beta version and in a web version within iCloud since the summer of 2013, but until now the service was only available to those who already own some of the devices from Apple, be it a Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. However, two days ago, Apple made its web service available to all users, regardless of the device they use.
The only condition for using iWork in iCloud is your own Apple ID, which anyone can arrange for free. In addition to access, users also get 1 GB of space to store created and uploaded iWork documents. However, Pages, Numbers and Keynote are still only available in beta, so you need to switch to a separate one beta version of iCloud and log in here. At the top of the page, just click on the link in the banner informing about the availability of iWork for all users.
After creating an account, users can start using a cloud-based office suite that competes with Google Docs and the web version of Office. Like both mentioned services, in addition to editing documents and automatically synchronizing changes, it also offers the possibility of collaborative editing by multiple users on one document at the same time.
Well, I didn't expect that, it's quite a significant policy change... Maybe they'll release iMessage in time :-D
iMessage is so uncompetitive that probably not many people are waiting for the same step as you….
That's really stupid. So what should they compete with? It is a normal way of sending messages. What are you missing there?
I sure hope they are working on it. Unfortunately, my experience with iWork is getting worse and worse. 1) if I'm on the net while editing a document, it suddenly gets stuck for 20-30 seconds and I can't write. (Turning on airplane mode helped!) it probably syncs. This is the state after the last update - OK before. 2) it can't cope with adding time data (minutes:seconds) 3) since I have it on four devices - it often asks which of the four documents it should keep (all four have the same storage time) 4) if in this mode no one else can share them edit the document - not even look at it. => I switched to google doc for shared documents :-( and I don't have any of the above problems. – How does iWorks work on your iPad?
Counting minutes and seconds is fine, you just need to have a good formula. I have the right number of hours at work, plus it deducts the salary.
Yeah, the whole iWork thing is a horribly unreliable endeavor. It freezes, doesn't load, problems with iCloud synchronization (the arrow on the document stays lit for several days), it's just horrible. I don't know exactly where the problem is, but definitely on the Apple side - either iOS or iOS devices or iWork or iCloud. In any case, this is not an isolated matter and it is worth a bullet.
I've been dealing with iCloud sync issues on Apple's phone support. We went on like this for about an hour with no resolution, they rated it as a global problem that Apple engineers are still working on, but thanks to their "expert" instructions I irretrievably lost several important documents that disappeared from the iPad and never appeared anywhere else . So they apologized to me for that. :-)
If in return they would at least increase the data volume in iCloud - 5 GB for several devices at once is not much after all. That's thanks to being loyal to the brand. Until now I'm not sure if it's even worth it.
