As expected, innovations in the iWork and iLife software packages also arrived today. The changes do not only concern new icons, but the applications for iOS and OS X have undergone both a visual and a functional change...

iWork

When presenting the new iPhone models in mid-September, Apple announced that the iWork office suite would be available for free download on the new iOS devices. Of course, this news pleased the users, but on the contrary, they were quite disappointed that iWork has not undergone any modernization at all. But that's changing now, and all three apps - Pages, Numbers and Keynote - have received a major update that, in addition to new features, also brings a new coat to match both of Apple's current operating systems, mobile iOS 7 and desktop OS X Mavericks. Numerous changes in the office set also correspond with the web service iWork for iCloud, which now enables collective work, which we have known for a long time from Google Docs.

According to Apple, iWork for Mac has been fundamentally rewritten and, in addition to the new design, it also has many revolutionary features. One of them is, for example, editing panels that adapt to the selected content and thus offer only those functions that the user can really need and use. Another nice new feature are graphs that change in real time depending on changes in the underlying data. With all applications from the iWork package, it is now also possible to use the typical share button and thus share documents, for example by e-mail, which will provide the recipient with a link to the relevant document stored in iCloud. As soon as the other party receives the email, they can immediately start working on the document and edit it in real time. As expected, the entire package has a 64-bit architecture corresponding to Apple's latest technological tendencies.

To reiterate, all of iWork is now free to download, not only for all new iOS devices, but also for newly purchased Macs.

iLife

The "creative" software package iLife has also received an update, and the update once again applies to both platforms - iOS and OS X. iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband have mainly undergone a visual change and now also fit into iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks in every way. When verbally and visually presenting the new versions of individual applications from the iLife set, Eddy Cue focused primarily on the fact that all of iLife works great with iCloud. This means you can easily access all your projects from any iOS device and even Apple TV. As already indicated, the update mainly concerns the visual side of the applications, and the user interface of the individual components of iLife is now simpler, cleaner and flatter. However, the goal of the update is also for individual applications to fully utilize the potential of both new operating systems.

GarageBand probably brought the biggest functional changes. On the phone, each song can now be divided into 16 different segments, which can then be worked with. If you own the new iPhone 5S or one of the new iPads, it's even possible to split a song twice. On the desktop, Apple offers a completely new music library, but the most interesting new feature is the "drummer" function. The user can choose from seven different drummers, each with their own specific style, and they will accompany the song themselves. Additional music styles can be purchased through in-app purchases.

Among the most interesting news inside iMovie is the "desktop-class efects" function, which apparently brings new possibilities for speeding up and slowing down video. So this function is probably intended mainly for the new iPhone 5s. Another novelty that many users will surely appreciate is the possibility to skip the process of creating a project before editing the video on the phone. The Theater function has been added to iMovie on Mac. Thanks to this news, users can replay all their videos directly in the application.

iPhoto also went through a redesign, but users still got a few new features. You can now create physical photo books on iPhones and order them straight to your home. Until now, something like this was only possible in the desktop version, but now both versions of the application have become functionally closer.

Like iWork, iLife is free to download on all new iOS devices and all new Macs. Anyone who already owns applications from iLife or iWork can update today for free.
