The presentation of the new iPhones, which took place this year on September 12, was traditionally accompanied by Apple with a detailed press release, which recapitulates the vast majority of the most important news. This year was no different, and after the unveiling of the iPhone XS and XR, an accompanying press release appeared in the press section of Apple's official website.

You can still read one magical sentence in it today:

Apple-designed accessories for iPhone XR including a clear case will be available starting at $55

There would be nothing unusual about that, Apple usually accompanies its products with at least a basic range of original accessories. However, the iPhone XR is an exception in this regard, as even more than a month after the start of sales (and almost three months since the original introduction), Apple still does not offer any original protective accessories.

If you look at Apple's official website today and drill down to the accessories section for the iPhone XR, in the tab covers and cases you will only find a trio of strange-looking covers from the manufacturer OtterBox and two types of protective glass, or anti-reflective protective film. Nothing more. No original silicone case, no original leather case - i.e. nothing from the usual range of accessories that Apple has always offered for its iPhones.

This can be somewhat frustrating for those used to Apple's original protective features. Both silicone and leather covers are of high quality and last longer than commonly available alternatives. Owners of cheaper iPhone XR must therefore reach for a cover/cover from another manufacturer. There are relatively many alternatives on the market today, so almost everyone should make a choice. However, if you're used to the original, you're out of luck for now.
