Popular website DxOMark, which focuses on comprehensive camera phone testing among other things, published its review of the new iPhone XR yesterday. As it turned out, this year's cheapest novelty from Apple reigns supreme in the list of phones with only one lens, i.e. (still) a classic design. You can read the complete in-depth test <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>, but if you don't have time for that, below are the highlights.

The iPhone XR achieved a score of 101 on DxOMark, the best result among phones with a single camera lens. The resulting evaluation is based on the score of two sub-tests, where the iPhone XR reached 103 points in the photography section and 96 points in the video recording section. On the overall ranking, the XR is in a very nice seventh place, surpassed only by models with two or more lenses. The iPhone XS Max is in second place overall.

The iPhone XR owes its result mainly to the fact that its camera is not that different compared to the more expensive XS model. Yes, it's missing the wide-angle lens that allows you to use 12x optical zoom and a few other extra bonuses, but its quality isn't as high as the main 1,8 MPx f/XNUMX solution. Thanks to this, the iPhone XR takes the same photos as the XS model in many situations.

Reviewers particularly liked the automatic exposure setting, excellent color rendering, image sharpness and minimal noise. On the other hand, the zoom options and working with a blurred background are not as good as in the more expensive model. On the contrary, the flash is surprisingly better in the cheaper variant than in the new flagship.

Photographic performance is also helped by the fact that the cheaper iPhone has the same processor for processing photos. It can therefore use the new Smart HDR, expose as needed and offers relatively good performance even in poor lighting conditions. Thanks to the enormous performance of the device, the auto-focus and face recognition functions, etc. also work great. The speed of the photo itself is also great. For video, the XR is almost identical to the XS.

The conclusion of the test is then clear. If you don't really need the features associated with the second lens in the more expensive iPhone XS, the XR model is an excellent camera phone. Especially if we look at the price tag of both models. Due to the considerable similarities of both of this year's novelties, their difference in the field of photography is very small. The two-fold optical zoom on the more expensive model in the final is not particularly important due to the reduced quality of the photos that the telephoto lens takes. And the expanded option in Portrait mode probably isn't worth the extra x thousand that Apple wants for the iPhone XS. So if you're really looking for quality camera with a still somewhat normal price tag, the iPhone XR, as a cheaper model, you really don't have to worry.
