In November of last year, an extremely interesting news about Apple's so-called Self Service Repair program, which will allow people to officially repair iPhones and Macs at home with the help of original parts, flew through the Internet. In practice, this should work fairly easily. First, you look at the available manual, according to which you decide whether you dare to do the repair at all, then you order the necessary part and go for it. However, some Friday has passed since the announcement and for now it is quiet on the footpath.

Why Self Service Repair is important

Although it may not seem so important to some, the opposite is true. This official program will completely change the current approach to electronics repairs, for which, specifically in the case of Apple products, it was necessary to reach out to authorized service providers. Otherwise, you had to settle for non-original components and, for example, with iPhones, you may subsequently be annoyed by reports about the use of unofficial parts and the like. At the same time, users gain significantly more freedom. Above all, so-called home repairmen and do-it-yourselfers can decide to do the repair themselves, or try it on an older device and learn something new - still in a completely official way, with official components and according to exact diagrams and manuals directly from Apple.

When the Cupertino giant announced this news through a press release, not only the apple community began to rejoice at this change. Unfortunately, we did not receive more detailed information. All we know from Apple is that the program will start in early 2022 only in the United States of America, gradually expanding. It will also apply to the iPhone 12 (Pro) and iPhone 13 (Pro), with Macs with the Apple Silicon M1 chip being added later.

When will it launch?

So a rather important question arises. When will Apple actually launch its Self Service Repair Program and when will it expand to other countries, i.e. to the Czech Republic? Unfortunately, we do not yet know the answer to this question. Considering how important the introduction of the program itself was, it's a little odd to say the least that we don't even see any mention of anything like that at the moment. Even so, it can be expected to launch soon, at least in Apple's homeland. Unfortunately, no further information is available about its expansion to Europe and the Czech Republic.
