In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

iOS boasts great security. Unfortunately, he does not use it to the full

It is generally known about Apple that it tries to create the most secure products possible, which reliably protect the privacy and personal data of its users. For example, such an iOS operating system is one of the most secure systems due to its closedness and is often built above the competitor Android in the field of this discipline. Currently on the overall security of iOS and Android they lit up cryptographers from the Johns Hopkins University Institute, according to which the potential security of Apple's mobile system is amazing, but unfortunately only on paper.

For the entire study, they used freely available documents from Apple and Google, security circumvention reports and their own analysis, thanks to which they assessed the robustness of encryption on both platforms. Research has subsequently confirmed that iOS's overall security infrastructure is truly impressive, boasting Apple in several different ways. But the problem is that most of them are simply unused.

We can cite one fact as an example. When the iPhone is turned on, all stored data is in a so-called encrypted state Complete protection (Complete Protection) and their decryption requires unlocking the device. This is an extreme form of security. But the problem is that once the phone is unlocked even once after a reboot, the vast majority of data goes into a state that the Cupertino company named as Protected until user authentication (Protected Until First User Authentication). However, since the phones are rarely restarted, the data is most of the time in the second mentioned state, while it would be much safer if they were still kept in the state Complete protection. The advantage of this less secure procedure is that the (de)cryption keys are stored in fast-access memory, making them easier for applications to access.

In theory, it is thus possible that an attacker can find a certain security hole, thanks to which he can obtain the (de)encryption keys in the aforementioned fast-access memory, which will subsequently enable him to decrypt most of the user data. On the other hand, the truth is that the attacker would have to know some crack that would allow him to take these steps. Fortunately, in this direction, Google and Apple work at lightning speed, when they fix such problems almost immediately after they are discovered.

As mentioned in the introduction, as a result, experts discovered that the iOS operating system is proud of great possibilities, but in the vast majority of cases it is not even used. At the same time, this study raises many doubts about the overall safety of Apple phones. Are they really as great as everyone makes them out to be, or is their security flawed? A spokesperson for Apple responded to the whole situation by saying that Apple products have several layers of protection, thanks to which they can face all kinds of attacks on private data. At the same time, the Cupertino giant is constantly working and developing new procedures, in the field of hardware and software, which would make the device even more secure.

iOS 14.4 warns users about non-original photo module

Yesterday, Apple released the second developer beta version of the iOS 14.4 operating system, which is now being tested by the developers themselves and other testers. However, MacRumors magazine noticed a very interesting novelty in the code of this update. If you have damaged your iPhone in some way in the past and the entire photo module had to be repaired or replaced outside of an authorized service, the system will automatically recognize this and possibly display a warning that the Apple phone is not equipped with an original component. The same is already the case with the use of a non-original battery and display.
