Recently, more and more sources are confirming that the first Apple phone introduced in 2020 will be the iPhone SE 2. According to the latest reports from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the second generation of the affordable iPhone is set to go into production early next year and will offer, among other things, improved antennas for better wireless transmission.

The successor to the iPhone SE should be based on the iPhone 8 in appearance, with which it will share the chassis and therefore the dimensions, the 4,7-inch display and the Touch ID located in the button. But the phone will be equipped with the latest A13 Bionic processor and 3 GB of RAM. The antennas, in which Apple will bet on the newer LCP (liquid crystal polymer) material, are also to receive a fundamental improvement. This will ensure a higher antenna gain (up to 5,1 decibels) and therefore a better connection to wireless networks.

iPhone SE 2 Design Expected:

LCP has several unique properties that make it ideal for antennas. This is because it is a substrate that behaves consistently in the entire high-frequency range, ensuring only minimal losses. In addition, it also has a low coefficient of thermal expansion and is thus stable even at higher temperatures that antennas normally reach under load.

The antenna components from the new material are to be supplied to Apple by Career Technologies and Murata Manufacturing, specifically at the beginning of 2020, when the iPhone SE 2 will begin production. The start of sales of the phone is then planned for the end of the first quarter of next year, which corresponds with the information that Apple will present the new model at the spring Keynote.

The new affordable iPhone is said to be available in three colors – silver, space gray and red – and will be available in 64GB and 128GB storage variants. The price should start at $399, the same as the original iPhone SE (16GB) at the time of its launch. On our market, the phone was available for CZK 12, so its successor should be available for a similar price.

It is also important to note that the new product will most likely not be labeled "iPhone SE 2". Although it is supposed to match the original iPhone SE in a few aspects, in the end it will be more of a hybrid of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 11, where the design will be inherited from the first model, the main components from the second, and, for example, the absence of 3D Touch. Perhaps the designation iPhone 8s or iPhone 9 seems a bit more logical, although even these are rather unlikely. For now, a question mark hangs over the phone's final name, and we may learn more in the coming months.
