Apple is one of the few companies that updates its products for several long years after release. For example, if you own an iPhone 6s that is more than 5 years old, you can still install the latest iOS 14 on it, which is remarkable. A major update is always released every year, while a minor update usually comes out within a few weeks. In addition, you can also sign up for beta testing with the fact that you will be able to use versions of operating systems that have not yet been publicly released. But from time to time you may find yourself in a situation where your iPhone cannot be updated - below you will find 5 tips that are guaranteed to help you.
Stable Wi-Fi connection
You must be connected to Wi-Fi to download and install the update properly. If Wi-Fi is not available and you are only connected to mobile data, or if you are not connected to the network at all, then unfortunately you will not download the update. So if the system tells you that it is not possible to download an iOS update or that it is not possible to check for updates, make sure that you are connected to a stable and fast Wi-Fi. So avoid, for example, public Wi-Fi networks, for example in cafes or shopping centers. You can change the Wi-Fi connection in Settings -> Wi-Fi. If this does not help, then the device still reboot otherwise, continue reading.
Repository check
Major iOS updates can be several gigabytes in size. Nowadays, you can buy iPhones with at least 64 GB of storage, so storage space is usually not a problem with newer devices. On the contrary, the problem occurs with older iPhones, which can only have a storage of 32 GB, if not 16 GB. In this case, it is enough to have a few hundred photos of photos or a few minutes of 4K video stored in the memory - immediately after that the entire memory can be filled and there will be no more space for the iOS update. To clear the storage just go to Settings -> General -> Storage: iPhone, where you can now see how much storage space individual applications take up. You can then apply here defer or delete, or you can go to them and delete some data manually.
Delete and redownload
From time to time, an update may download incorrectly, or there may be other issues that prevent the update from installing. Most often, in this case, it helps to completely delete the update and have it downloaded again. The good news is that it is nothing complicated - the update looks like a classic application. So just go to Settings -> General -> Storage: iPhone, where after below find row s by the settings icon and the iOS name [version]. After finding the line click open click the button Delete update and action confirm. Finally, just go to Settings -> General -> Software Update and have the update downloaded again.
Connect the charger
Updating the iOS or iPadOS operating system can in some cases take several (dozens) of minutes. It mainly depends on how big the update is, and a few other factors as well. Once the update starts installing, the Apple logo will appear on the screen, along with a progress bar. It is in this case that the most important thing is that the iPhone or iPad does not turn off and the update is not interrupted. So if your apple device has been updated for a really long time, make sure it is connected to power. If the update is interrupted, you risk some damage to the system. In this case, it is often necessary to go into recovery mode and perform the recovery process.
Restoring network settings
If you can't update the iOS operating system, or if you can't download the update and you're connected to a working home Wi-Fi, you can reset the network settings. This option is often the last option, but it almost always helps, both for Wi-Fi problems and for Bluetooth or mobile data problems. However, keep in mind that you will lose all your saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices - but it's definitely worth it. You can reset the network settings in Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset network settings, where after authorize and action confirm. Then try to update reinstall.
- You can buy newly introduced Apple products, for example, at Alge, Mobile Emergency or u iStores
