Practically already after the first analyzes of sales of the iPhone 12 mini, it was claimed that it is a financial failure for Apple, which will surely cut this version with the next generation. This year in September, however, we saw it again. And it's definitely not a shame, because you simply won't find a similar phone on the market.

With the introduction of the iPhone 13 in September, Apple introduced four versions of it. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6,7" display and is the top of the company's portfolio. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 have the same large 6,1" display, and they have the biggest competition on the market, because it most often ranges from this size. The 13 mini model has a 12" display, just like the iPhone 5,4 mini a year before, and even after two years of existence of this display size, it is somewhat unique.

Absolutely unmatched

This is because it simply has no competition. If you look at any e-shop and search by diagonal size, you will find practically only a few devices below 5,4 inches. The first is the iPhone 13 mini along with the 12 mini model, then, of course, it is the archaic iPhone SE 2nd generation, which has a 4,7" display and is practically the only representative of smartphones that does not yet have a display across the entire front of the device. Subsequently, only low-end Huawei or a few cheap Alcatel phones are available for sale here at a price of around 1 CZK.

It can thus be said unequivocally that the iPhone with the nickname mini is the best-selling phone of its size, but not of its category. Despite the small display, its equipment, and above all the price, ranks it in the upper middle class, if we are talking about basic storage. And that may be the problem. Manufacturers do not need to produce really small phones, because even with those with a display diagonal of more than 6", they can still reach an acceptable price for the customer without the customer having to squint at the small display.

A larger display simply equals better user comfort. Not that you'll see more content on it, it's just that it's bigger and more accessible. With the iPhone 13 mini model, Apple brought modern functions in the smallest possible and very compact body, and with a price tag under CZK 20. It has certainly found its users, when among them there are certainly those who sing celebratory odes to Apple for this size. The company simply tried, but considering the offer, it can be said that such a device simply has no place on the market. So if the 3rd generation iPhone mini will come, it is very unlikely.

A more logical step seems to be to reduce the display frames again, thereby moving the Max model even higher and making an intermediate step between it and the now 6,1" variants. With the reduction of the frame, these would experience either a reduction of the body or, on the contrary, an increase in the diagonal itself.
