The new iPhone 8 has been around for a few days now (at least in the countries of the first wave) and that means you can look forward to a lot of interesting content and tests that are a bit outside of what it offers us classic review. One prime example is the JerryRigEverything YouTube channel. Among other things, he releases videos in which the newly introduced phones are tested for their durability. He did not avoid this "torture" test either the new iPhone 8. Below you can see how the novelty from Cupertino is doing.

As far as mechanical resistance is concerned, many question marks hang over the new glass back, which we can remember last from the iPhone 4S. If you've had a quad iPhone, probably more because of its fragile back. One fall to the ground was all it took and an unsightly spider appeared on the back. The iPhone 8 has a glass back as well, but the hardness and durability of the glass should be the best on the market. At least that's what Apple tried to tell us at the keynote.

However, before we look at the back, the display is much more important. In the video below, you can see how the display of the new iPhone fared in a duel with the tools used by the author. This is a classic durability test, where tools of the appropriate hardness are used. It increases as you move up the scale. The first visible damage appeared with tool number 6, then more with number 7. These are the same results as with last year's iPhone 7 (and other flagships from other manufacturers). As for the level of screen protection, nothing has changed here since last year.

Apple boasts that it uses sapphire for the camera's cover glass. It is very durable, and using the tools mentioned above, those up to level 8 should not be a problem. However, as it turns out, a hardness 6 tool already leaves marks on the slide. Just like last year, this year Apple is using its own sapphire, which has a different composition than the classic one, and is also slightly less durable.

In the video, you can also see the resistance test of the metal frame and also how the phone's display reacts to open fire. Of course, there is also a test of resistance to bending, which appears since the iPhone 6, which suffered quite a bit from this. During the weekend, a Drop test also appeared on the channel, which you can also view below. These two videos should be enough to give you a fairly clear idea of what the new iPhone 8 can handle.
