In 2016, a case concerning non-functional Touch ID after the user had their iPhone repaired at an unauthorized repair shop. Sometime that Friday, there was a firefight between Apple and users who resisted the need to have their phones repaired only at designated service points. Apple eventually updated iOS and the "bug" was removed. It seems that after two years we have something very similar. However, this time the problem is a bit worse, as in this case the phones do not work at all.

A new case has appeared in the US and is currently affecting a larger number of users. This is also the reason why the American magazine Vice writes about him. Users are complaining that their iPhone 11.3 stopped working with the arrival of iOS 8. After a short investigation, it turned out that this problem occurs with users who had their screen replaced at an unauthorized service.

Most likely, the situation from last year is repeating itself. Last year, Touch ID stopped working because an unauthorized service did not pair the new panel with a special internal chip inside the iPhone that checks the mutual compatibility of individual components when replacing the display. After an unauthorized replacement, this chip detected a defect and disabled Touch ID, out of concern about compromising the phone's security system. Something similar happens in the case of the iPhone X, when the phone turns off Face ID when the ambient light sensor is replaced without authorization. Again for safety reasons, as the internal safety circuit is "disturbed" by a component that "doesn't have anything to do" there.

For the aforementioned reasons, unauthorized service centers are said to be beginning to reject requests for iPhone 8 display repairs due to what happens next. In recent years, Apple has been fighting against similar unauthorized repair shops, as well as the popular US right to repair electronics (which is becoming part of legislation in many states). Last year, the company enabled Touch ID, and with the help of an iOS update, the problem disappeared. However, a non-functional display is a much more limiting issue, and the number of users with a non-functional phone will only grow.
