This morning, information began to surface about an issue that some new iPhone 6 Plus users have been experiencing. As a result of carrying it in their pocket, their phone bent significantly. This gives rise to another pseudo-case, which bears the name "Bendgate", at the center of which is supposed to be a flaw in the design, due to which the entire structure is weaker in certain places and thus prone to bending.
If this happened while carrying a 6-inch iPhone 5,5 Plus in the back pocket of your pants, no one would likely pay attention, as sitting down on a phone that large must naturally take its toll on the device, especially considering the pressure that is developed due to the weight of the human body. However, the bends should have occurred when carried in the front pocket, so some are wondering where Apple went wrong. At the same time according to SquareTrade's independent research are iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus the most durable Apple phones ever.
According to the published photos, the bends usually occur on the side around the buttons, but the exact location of the bend varies. Because of the buttons, holes are drilled in the otherwise solid body, through which the buttons pass, which of course impairs the strength in the given place. When a certain pressure is exerted, sooner or later bending must occur. It should be noted that the iPhone 6 Plus is made of aluminum, which is a relatively soft metal with a value of 3 on the Mohs scale. Due to the low thickness of the phone, it should be expected that the aluminum will bend during rough handling. Although Apple could have made the iPhone 6 out of stainless steel, which is much stronger, it is also three times heavier than aluminum. With the amount of metal used, the iPhone 6 Plus would have an unpleasant weight and would be more susceptible to falling from the hand.

Samsung solves a similar problem with large phones with a plastic body, where the plastic is elastic and a minor temporary bend will practically not show, however, when more pressure is applied, even the plastic will not last, the display glass will shatter and traces of the bend will remain on the body. And if you think Apple would be better off with steel, there are also photos of bent iPhone 4S, and the previous two generations of Apple phones didn't escape a similar fate.
Prevention is the best solution. This means not to carry the phone in the back pocket, in the front pocket only carry it in looser pockets so that it does not get between the pressure of the femur and pelvic bone when sitting. It is also recommended to wear it with the back of the device towards the thigh. However, it is best not to carry your iPhone in your trouser pockets at all, and rather store it in a jacket, coat or handbag pocket.
It's probably more a question of why they (all manufacturers) keep trying to make it thinner and thinner. I'm not saying it has to be 2 cm thick, but why so thin again.
Aren't the features more important?
You know Romka, "thickness" is also a feature...
I somehow misunderstood your answer. Where did I write that "thickness is not a feature"??
I would prefer a thicker and, for example, a stronger flashlight...
Well, judging by the sales figures, I think in Cupertino they know what people want.. Hi
I think people would mainly like the endurance, but it's hard when apple is so damned to be able to say every time that they made a lighter and thinner iphone... Bye
Is this an iPhone 6 Plus only problem or does it affect the iPhone 6 as well? Thanks for the links…
I will answer with a video where the HTC One is compared, for example
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IROcoJeVfSI
Almost every phone can be bent... it's a matter of whether the scream of technology in the pocket is carried by a normal person who takes at least a little care with the phone, or a retard with tight jeans
Almost everyone doesn't… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwM4ypi3at0
The new owners should have realized that by moving to this size they will have to change their habits. If they didn't want to do that, they should have stayed with 5S. Paddles don't belong in pants...
I guess Cook said somewhere that they could have made a bigger phone a long time ago, but they'd rather do things 100% than rush things. This will be interesting to watch.
So I don't see in the video that someone put the phone in their pocket, sat down and then took out the phone bent.... That's like saying I'll put a fork in my pocket and it will bend!! And then bending it in his hand for the camera…. LOL people think.
tvl what is this stupid "don't put your phone in your pocket" advice!? Mobile phones were, are and always will be carried in pockets. I don't understand how you can excuse something like that here. Don't make it a feature of every phone. They probably just stupidly tested it and now they're going to have a hard time.
well, if the stupid display enlargement doesn't stop, I think that in a while phones will be carried in backpacks
Look, I'm a big apple fan, but what the hell are we talking about and why does this article of yours defend it and ridiculously explain how and where I should carry the iPhone? Damn this is a phone. It costs over 20 and I don't care at all what it's made of and etc. It's just a phone and it has to withstand all these things. I'm interested in it simply working as it should, and I'm going to make excuses for devices in this price category and solve it as if. Apple just messed this up...
Maybe the problem is in the pants? Didn't they happen to have the same shorts? But no one is solving that here, right?! Hell. Or some gene that these people have in common. Apparently the parents are to blame, not Apple! Or the government, doctors!
this is a hidden feature of iP6+, it's called HTC Hero mod.
I also couldn't put it down to "bending" http://jirihubik.cz/?p=136&preview=true
And now who can guarantee me that this is not something that was just released by the competition? Somehow I just don't believe it will be that dramatic. I don't take that video into consideration, I'll destroy any phone that way. But it's simply a question of whether it will actually just happen in someone's pocket...
Has anyone explained the time shift, when the iPhone time was 2:26 at the beginning of the bend and 1:59 at the end?
They probably pre-rolled the bend. Or failed to bend it right (read enough) the first time. Hello
There you go. With the continuation of something on Samsung, it looks like a paid action from a competitor. So with effort thought out but betrayed in haste.. Like most war attempts..
I'm an Apple fan, but the quality has been steadily declining since the iP5. In particular, the iP5 has started to suffer greatly from bending due to the transition from stainless steel to Al - put your iP5 on glass and we'll have fun. With the IP 5S, the situation has improved a little (probably a different alloy in addition to a different surface treatment). Well, that thin new miracle - it is clear that it will bend, there is no other way. I am writing on the basis of ownership of about 20 pieces of IP in the company. Just friends who will subject absolutely anything to consumption. Otherwise, I haven't seen the ip4 really bent - you have to be really badass to bend a 3,5-inch stainless steel phone…….
You obviously haven't seen an iPhone even from a train, otherwise you wouldn't be able to write about the iP4 as a stainless steel phone :-D When it's made of glass :-D
Ha ha… you mean the glass butt? The construction was stainless steel. Hello
Sure... But I meant that the outside was made of glass... That is. it definitely wasn't exactly indestructible... It couldn't be bent, the glass broke instead... Which is even worse :-D
only you changed those glass butts for a couple of hundred. if you bend the metal structure that holds the phone for 25 taka, it's probably hard to replace it.
If the glass breaks, I'll pay (for newer models, maybe 5k). If I bend the phone, Apple replaces it... It is impossible that they do not recognize this as a warranty repair... If the phone bends due to normal carrying in the pocket, then it is not the fault of the user, but the manufacturer, and therefore it is clearly a claim. So this bothers me MUCH less :-D
Me, maybe not bent, but I've seen more spiders than Bilbo in the Darkwood. Hello
Well, it was enough to use titanium instead of aluminum or stainless steel. It is light and has shape memory. That would be the price tag for an iPhone :-)
That is a fact. However, I think that this option was also on the tables of APPLE engineers. Finally, many people allergic to various metal elements would be pleased. Well, what would the price be, if it's already quite a lot, I'd say? :D
maybe it's the same, but it would be enough to want a slightly smaller margin at the expense of bent phones?
iPhone 6 plus can bend in your pocket. Me, probably yes, but it probably won't be by phone. I once sat on a metal pipe with an iP5 in my back pocket and it bent too. My fault, not the phone's. If you want something for a trip to the mountains, take CAT. Or an alligator. Wow. Hello
Well, logically (engineering-wise), if I run out of material and replace stainless steel with aluminum, then I have to expect that it will lose strength. I personally do not understand the efforts of manufacturers, whatever it may be, to change well-established, proven and functional products of genius designers for worthless, attractive crap. Proj is a world full of WANTING college students who can't do anything but can do everything.
Another thing is carrying a cell phone in your pockets. Look at today's degenerate and low-IQ youth. They don't respect anything, let alone the laws of physics. If I want something to last, then I have to behave accordingly, or prepare for possible and even anticipated loads.
I bought the LUNATIK TAKTIK case immediately after buying the iPhone.
The mobile phone calmly shoots underwater, skis and with the FIND MY PHONE test in the snow, but without any problems half an hour of shooting in a mixer with mortar.
And between us, those few grams for more....at least I know I'm missing something in my pocket or in my bag when I leave it somewhere. And it can also decently protect you from a potential repeat offender.
Well, maybe the world is full of university students, but at least unlike you, they can speak Czech. Normally, I hate digging into people's language skills, but if someone is already criticizing the education of others, they shouldn't have so many mistakes in that comment... ;-) Otherwise, phones are consumer goods and it's normal to carry them in your pocket. I don't need my phone to last ten years, I'll replace it with a newer one in two years at the latest.
First of all, I don't understand why changing something that works for something new, that's what I call waste. Either you brag that you have what it takes, or you can. Then I would like you to have three children of the same nature, it will work for you. Or you are just fooling around and that speaks volumes about you.
Second, I don't understand where you read that I'm digging into someone's language skills. You probably can't understand the content of the given text.
My reduction of the current higher education system, education and inclusion in everyday life results from knowledge from practice. Education is a mere commercial farce and produces less and less useful value for humanity. (a significant part of my family works in education, and I myself teach various professions in engineering) Today's university student is a former three-player, rather a four-player. Additionally, with a morbid interest in anything related to work. But that is for a longer debate and elsewhere.
In short, every new graduate tries to show the world that his school is really cool and that he was taught a lot there. Then it will turn out to be a mess that the world is full of. Non-functional things, non-functional computer systems, confusing offices, etc., an ever-growing and branching administration and a large increase in completely unnecessary and useless work functions.
Then they fire him, he ends up in a labor camp and in the finale in our company. I point out that a 50-year-old worker is able to learn more than a young graduate of any school. In addition, he values his work and is a real asset to the company.
PS: When you have a moment, please explain to the world why two different text programs don't report any of my text errors and you found a bunch of them. Apparently a hit goose….right? But no offense….that's why we're not here, right?
you sound like moderator Beavers from forum.iphone.cz
So I looked up some comments about his person. I don't know how he is doing. I usually don't speak Czech with people, and I personally think that it doesn't matter how a person expresses himself, but what kind of idea he conveys. However, the moment someone starts to relate to the education of others, and writes with a heap of mistakes, then I just can't help it ;-)
sorry, but I responded to the user Pepe Kamino, he sounds to me like moderator Beavers from forum.iphone.cz, not you, even though it may appear in the structure of the discussion that I responded to you, there is an arrow to the right of my name, which shows "Pepe Kamino" but since my post is not separated by paragraphs, it looks like I'm responding to you. :-)
Ah, so sorry, somehow I missed it ;-)
I didn't write that you are criticizing someone's language skills, but someone's education. I admit, I could have worded it better. In short, it just occurred to me that if someone wants to criticize the education system, they should at least pay attention to how they present themselves, as far as their Czech language is concerned ;-) There are mistakes, only text editors don't understand that someone is trying to to divide "in addition" into two, it does not always cope with commas, etc. But it doesn't matter. As I say, I don't care how someone writes, rather I found it inappropriate given the talk about the education system. Which I don't agree with, by the way, because the students, for a change, are much better equipped with languages and can handle technology much better. They are simply interested (and if they are smart, even alive) in other things - I see that in practice.
Otherwise, I don't brag or brag. In short, I consider it a normal thing that the mobile always goes away after two years. In my opinion, no other electronic device becomes obsolete so quickly. And with the three children – erm… When they earn money for it ;-) I too can afford such things only later in life… My parents supported us on very low labor wages, so there was definitely no way for such things.
I wonder who will pay for all the destroyed phones..
competition :)
And depending on which phones they don't test, it's clear which one :-)
:-D
Excellent relief gentlemen.
Today, anything can be made into an affair. Especially if you weren't paying attention in school and don't understand the laws of physics. What a surprise when another phone calmly cracks: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SwdZzvCFhLo
I'm not downloading the video anyway. To exert such pressure on the phone.. wink those white fingers. A very natural situation. Perhaps only when I have almost a record in Bejeweled and suddenly Time Up. But that's not the phone's fault either. It's embarrassing. They poor people do something they didn't even want just so the visually impaired can enjoy the iPhone and this is thanks? Baldness.. Hello
That's an article like a pig. The conclusion "However, it is best not to carry the iPhone in trouser pockets at all" is perfect! And you'd better not drive in the car, don't wash in the washing machine and don't put your laptop on the table, right?
I can bend any other mobile phone with that kind of pressure, only an idiot could make such a video and there will be even more of them who will follow him and proclaim that the iPhone is bad - if they'd rather get their heads out of their shit than get caught, but the idiots won't think of it . It's futile
To be honest, I'm totally disappointed. If this video is really true and not exaggerated, then it makes no sense for me to buy an iPhone 6 plus. Personally, I was really looking forward to it and wanted to buy it right away! People who write things like: "only a deb*l would put it in his pocket" should think about themselves. It's still a phone, and if it fits in my pocket, I see no reason not to carry it there. I'm definitely not going to go around like a madman for a phone with a backpack... The problem is that if Apple released poop with an apple on it, everyone would buy it....
It's only a matter of time before Apple ends up like the legendary Nokia or Microsoft's Nokia. See The “innovation” that still shows….
Before anyone crucify me here, I also own an iMac, Macbook Air, iPad, and I've had every new iPhone SO FAR.
If people continue to act like idiots, Apple will never stop making fun of us….
No one will cruise, that's why we're not here. And if, with one ear here....but we know.
I just wanted to support your point regarding the legendary NOKIA.
For years like that, they showed the world the way forward, and now they are going to the bottom so fast. But whatever we say, you, as an obvious expert and iOS fan, will surely confirm that as soon as Microsoft gets involved, it is a guarantee of failure. But it wasn't always like that.
And here we are again. Win 95, Win98, WinXP and after a bit of trouble, Win7...good, but since then it's been a mess.
The big hood is no longer the driving force (just like Steve Jobs at APPLE) and things are going well. As you rightly pointed out "INNOVATION" is what is destroying the world. Once upon a time, innovation really was innovation, but everything revolved around reliability and pure functionality. In history, it would probably be like this:
Prehistoric times-ancient times-middle ages-established ages (up to 1938)-excess ages..apocalypse :-D
He doesn't bend the whole phone for that video, but only the edge. And then there's the discrepancy with the times on that phone. Someone already wrote that here. And according to the test I threw up, it would have to be 100 pounds strong. I think it's an inflated bubble...
but we know that when something is thin, it can be bent, we are not stupid. but when someone makes a phone and the phones are worn by many people, they have to endure it. it doesn't matter if it's apple or samsung, the phone has to hold up and if it doesn't, it just needs to be labeled as bendable and not people as stupid.
I took photos with a competitor on two vacations, the big device didn't bend or get damaged in any way, and it didn't occur to me to treat it like a glove. I was waiting for a plus and I was looking forward to it. I know you love apple, but they just blew it. What some of you write is like making a super-thin ping-pong ball and not being surprised that it cannot get clogged - after all, it is thin, so what did you expect?????
Phones and wearable electronics must withstand a fall from a height, not bend, have a battery that lasts at least 48 hours, be waterproof, not waterproof, etc., etc.
Here is a test that has heads and tails...
