As for the secrecy of upcoming products, the California company Apple has always been very strict in this regard. Unfortunately, we all could see that the new iPhone 5 was seen on various servers many months in advance. I would very much hate to speculate that after the death of Steve Jobs, Apple will settle somewhere in the gray average among its competitors. Maybe it will be, maybe the prototype leaks are just a fluke, and maybe… maybe other factors played a role.
But let's go back to the very beginning. Server The Wall Street Journal came already on May 16 with news of a 4-inch display. A day later, the agency also confirmed this information Reuters and on May 18, the rumors were repeated on Bloomberg. Later, rumors of elongated display with a resolution of 1136×640 pixels. I really didn't believe the first guesses about the elongated display, but as it turned out on September 12, I was terribly wrong. About a month ago, we informed you about the patent removing the touch layer and its implementation directly into the display. In-cell technology is actually used in the iPhone 5.
Another prominent feature on the leaked prototypes was the new smaller connector. Today we already know that it is called Lightning, it is composed of 8 pins on each side and is fully digital. About the successor 30-pin "iPod" connector been talked about for some time, Apple decided to change in 2012. And it's no wonder, the best years are already successfully behind them. Today, in devices that are getting thinner, it is necessary to constantly miniaturize all components, including connectors. The question remains when the 3,5 mm headphone jack will also arrive, so far it has only moved from the top to the bottom.
From the leaked prototypes, we could all get a fairly detailed idea of what the new iPhone looks like. She even kept its design even before its official launch register as an industrial design a certain Chinese company. Virtually no one was surprised on September 12 when they saw an elongated phone similar to the iPhone 4 and 4S on the screen behind Phil Schiller. The aluminum back didn't impress anyone either, with images circulating on the internet a few weeks before the keynote. A new A6 processor with higher performance, LTE support or a slightly improved camera were already taken for granted. Even the new EarPods were seen online before their launch.
That's really a shame. If we look at the rival Samsung Galaxy S III, for example, no one knew its final form until its launch. Why did the South Koreans manage to keep their flagship a secret? Component suppliers and production lines may be to blame. In this aspect, Samsung is a very independent company that is able to manufacture the vast majority of components under its own roof. Apple, on the other hand, outsources everything to other companies. Only the displays are assembled to order by the trio of LG, Sharp and Japan Display. The number of combinations of how parts or entire prototypes can be made public is many times higher than Samsung's.
However, not everyone follows all the rumors from the apple world on a daily basis. There are definitely people who saw the iPhone 5 for the first time after the keynote. Although the new phone from Cupertino received a lukewarm reception, it was pre-ordered in the first 24 hours by an incredible two million customers and became the fastest-selling Apple product in history. Perhaps in the future we will learn the appearance and specifications of new devices ahead of time, but ultimately this fact will not have too much effect on sales. Only the keynotes will probably not be the same show as under Steve Jobs.
This wouldn't have happened under Jobs!!
that's the question of how it was. I suspect that Apple has been announcing how it will focus on product secrecy again. but what about looking at it from another side? what if apple intentionally kept it a secret to prepare people, developers, 3rd accessory manufacturers, etc. for the change in aspect ratio... after all, the same connector, aspect ratio for a few years... what if I tested how the public would react to it?
another thing, secretly something of which there are supposed to be millions of pieces in the warehouses for the first days of sales, there must be so many suppliers that I see it as practically impossible.
it's a shame that there's no element of surprise, it was this that brought me to apple.
If you miss the moment of surprise, then stop going to Jablíčkář and other similar sites dealing with Apple, and you will have the surprise back :D
unfortunately, you would have to turn off the entire internet because apple is simply being written about everywhere. on the contrary, chatter about what apple could introduce and how it could look like they were straight. but mostly they were far from the truth.

But it happened. Remember the iPhone 4? Personally, I don't like this talk that under Jobs something would be so and so...
exactly.
that's right, Jobs would stand behind the ass of every scumbag who cheats in the iPhone factory :-)))
In my opinion, the components or prototypes did not leak onto the Internet, as there is not as much interest in Samsung as there is in Apple iPhone. No one is worried about what the Samsung Galaxy SIV will look like, but people are more interested in what the iPhone 7th generation will look like.
Exactly. In the same way, no paparazzi will photograph, for example, Mrs. Novotná from Blšan sunbathing naked on vacation, but if it is a well-known person, the newspapers will be full of her photos. The iPhone simply attracts huge attention and it is almost impossible to hide something.
pche.. Mrs. Novotná from Blšan is a piece, if you saw her you would understand :-))
Thank you :-)
The problem will also be that the phone starts selling a few days after the presentation. This means that everything needs to be produced well in advance, and thus there are many places to leak information. If the phone was introduced in June and went on sale in March, there would not have to be many of them made and it would probably be easier to keep it a secret.
Steve Jobs really has nothing to do with it.. With each iPhone the sales of pre-launch units increases.. and with each unit the risk of leaks increases…. Simple… even Steve couldn't keep this amount secret…
Do you know somewhere what time the new ios6 will be released today??
As it was already written, nobody is interested in Samsung and if it was sold after half a year as the first iPhone, it would be possible to keep it a secret. It's that damn hard, and even Jobs wouldn't do anything. However, he still solved this problem, and so we are working on our own supply chain and a separate campus. Hope this helps a bit.
