In the world of iPhones, there is always more talk about the high-end Pro models. However, classic models are also popular, even if Apple surprised us this year. We have seen the release of the iPhone 14 (Plus), which, however, is virtually no different from last year's generation. To put things into perspective, in this article we'll look at the 5 main differences between the "fourteen" and the "thirteen", or why you should save up and get an iPhone 13 - the differences are really minimal.

Chip

Until last year, one generation of iPhones always had the same chip, whether it was the classic series or the Pro series. However, the latest "fourteens" have already been differentiated, and while the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) has the latest A16 Bionic chip, the iPhone 14 (Plus) offers last year's slightly modified A15 Bionic chip. And how exactly does this chip differ from the one that beats last generation? The answer is simple - only in the number of GPU cores. While the iPhone 14 (Plus) GPU has 5 cores, the iPhone 13 (mini) has "only" 4 cores. So the difference is insignificant.

Battery life

However, what the latest iPhone 14 (Plus) has to offer is slightly better battery life compared to the iPhone 13 (mini). Since this year the mini variant was replaced by the Plus variant, we will only compare the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13. The battery life when playing video is 20 hours and 19 hours respectively, when streaming video 16 hours and 15 hours respectively, and when playing of sound up to 80 hours or up to 75 hours. Practically, it is an extra hour, but I personally think that it is still not worth the extra charge.

Camera

Slightly more obvious differences can be found in the cameras, both rear and front. The iPhone 14's main camera has an f/1.5 aperture, while the iPhone 13 has an f/1.6 aperture. In addition, the iPhone 14 offers a new Photonic Enigine, which will ensure even better quality of photos and videos. With the iPhone 14, we must not forget to mention the possibility of filming in film mode in 4K HDR at 30 FPS, while the older iPhone 13 can "only" handle 1080p at 30 FPS. In addition, the new iPhone 14 has learned to spin in action mode with improved stability. The big difference is the front camera, which offers automatic focus for the first time on the iPhone 14. The difference is again in the aperture number, which is f/14 for the iPhone 1.9 and f/13 for the iPhone 2.2. What applies to the film mode of the rear camera also applies to the front one.

Car accident detection

Not only the iPhone 14 (Pro), but also the latest Apple Watch Series 8, Ultra and SE of the second generation, now support the Car Accident Detection function. As the name suggests, when activated, these devices can detect a car accident, thanks to brand new accelerometers and gyroscopes. If the recognition of an accident actually occurs, the latest Apple devices can call the emergency line and call for help. On last year's iPhone 13 (mini), you would have looked in vain for this feature.

Colors

The last difference we will cover in this article is the colors. The iPhone 14 (Plus) is currently available in five colors namely blue, purple, dark ink, star white and red, while the iPhone 13 (mini) is available in six colors namely green, pink, blue, dark ink , starry white and red. However, this will of course change in a few months, when Apple will certainly present the iPhone 14 (Pro) in green in the spring. As far as color differences are concerned, the red is a bit more saturated on the iPhone 14, the blue is lighter and resembles the mountain blue of last year's iPhone 13 Pro (Max).
