Although the introduction of the new iPhones is 14 months away, all sorts of speculations and leaks and possible changes are still spreading in Apple circles. We could even hear some of them before the arrival of the "thirteens". However, interesting information regarding the operational memory surfaced recently. According to a post published on a Korean discussion forum, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get 8GB of RAM. Apple users started an interesting discussion about it, or does such an improvement actually make sense?

Before we focus on the question itself, it will be appropriate to say something about the leak itself. It was provided by a user going by the nickname yeux1122, who in the past predicted a larger display for the iPad mini, a change in its design and a release date. Although he unfortunately missed the mark, in two other cases his words proved to be true. In addition, the leaker allegedly draws information directly from the supply chain and presents the whole matter of larger operating memory as a fait accompli. Although a change is likely, it is still not certain whether Apple really seems committed to this move.

Increase RAM on iPhone

Of course, there is nothing wrong with increasing the operating memory - logically, one can conclude that the more, the better, which has been true for several years in the segment of computers, tablets, phones, or even watches. However, iPhones are rather behind in this regard. Indeed, when we compare them calmly with significantly cheaper phones from competitors (models with the Android operating system), we can almost immediately see that Apple is noticeably faltering. Although on paper the apple pieces don't look very attractive, in reality it's the opposite - thanks to good software optimization for hardware, iPhones run like clockwork, even if they have less operating memory available.

The current generation iPhone 13 (Pro) offers first-class performance thanks to the combination of the Apple A15 chip and up to 6GB of operating memory (for Pro and Pro Max models). Although these models are not afraid of anything, it is also necessary to think about the future and the current competition. For example, the currently released Samsung Galaxy S22 also uses 8GB of RAM - but the problem is that it has been relying on it since 2019. But it's time for Apple to at least match its competition. In addition, current tests show that the iPhone 13 is significantly more powerful than the new models from the Galaxy S22 series. By bringing a new chip and an increase in RAM, Apple could strengthen its dominant position.

Possible complications

On the other hand, we know Apple and we all know very well that not everything has to go exactly according to plan. Last year's iPad Pro shows us this perfectly. Although he received up to 16 GB of operating memory, he was unable to use it in the final, as it was limited by the iPadOS operating system. That is, individual applications could not use more than 5 GB. So whether the iPhone 14 gets a higher RAM or not, we can only hope that it will be done without unnecessary complications.
