Apple introduced the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. On the occasion of the traditional September conference, we witnessed the unveiling of the new generation of Apple phones, which brings with it a number of interesting changes and novelties. Earlier speculations about the cancellation of the mini model have even been confirmed. It has now been replaced by the larger Plus model, i.e. the basic iPhone in a larger body. So let's take a look at the news and changes that the new iPhone 14 features together.

Display

The new iPhone 14 comes in the same 6,1″ body, while the iPhone 14 Plus model received a 6,7″ display. A larger screen brings with it a number of great benefits in the form of more space that can be used to display content, play games and watch multimedia. In terms of display specifications, the new series is significantly closer to last year's iPhone 13 Pro. Again, this is an OLED panel that has a maximum brightness of up to 1200 nits and Dolby Vision technology for displaying HDR content. Of course, there is also a Ceramic Shield protective layer and resistance to dust and water. Unfortunately, we did not get a 120Hz display in the case of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Apple also promises all-day battery life from the new phone.

Chipset and camera

In terms of performance, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will offer last year's Apple A15 Bionic chipset, which has a 6-core CPU with 2 powerful cores and 4 economical cores. Even so, we received an interesting improvement in the form of improved privacy, better functions for gaming and other benefits.

Of course, Apple did not forget about the cameras, which have improved tremendously compared to the previous generation. The rear main sensor offers a resolution of 12 Mpx and it also has OIS, i.e. stabilization with sensor shift. To make matters worse, it also achieved significantly higher efficiency when taking photos in low light conditions. On the front we find a selfie camera, which is equipped with an automatic focus function (autofocus) for the first time. In terms of specifications, it offers an aperture of f/1,5, and even in this case, optical stabilization with sensor shift is not missing. In addition, the new iPhone 14 comes with a brand new component called the Photonic Engine, which improves all lenses and pushes the quality of the resulting photos even higher. Specifically, we can expect a 2x improvement in low light for the front and ultra-wide-angle cameras and a 2,5x improvement for the main sensor.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, we can count on the support of 5G networks that enable super-fast downloads, better content streaming and real-time connectivity. 5G is now supported by over 250 operators worldwide. However, what Apple put considerable emphasis on during the presentation is the eSIM. This whole concept has come a long way in recent years. That is why the giant from Cupertino has decided to bring significant improvements and facilitate connection. Therefore, only models with eSIM support will be sold in the United States of America, which will not have a classic SIM card slot. In terms of security, this is a better option. After all, if you lose your phone, no one can take out your SIM card and possibly misuse it in this way.

At the same time, Apple brings the same gyroscopic sensors to the new iPhone 14 (Plus) as the new Apple Watch, thanks to which, for example, a car accident detection function can be counted on. It is also a matter of course that the Apple Watch and the iPhone are interconnected. To top it all off, satellite connectivity is also coming for rescue purposes. This is provided by a new special component, thanks to which the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus can directly connect to satellites in orbit even in cases where the user is so-called without a signal, which could otherwise be used to call for help. If the user has a clear view of the sky, it takes only 15 seconds to send the message. So the SOS message first goes to the satellite, which sends it to a station on the ground, which then passes it on to the rescue services. At the same time, this way, for example, you can share your location within the Find service with your loved ones. However, these options will only start in November, and only in the United States and Canada.

Availability and price

The new iPhone 14 starts at $799. This is the same amount that, for example, last year's iPhone 13 started at. As for the iPhone 14 Plus, it will only be available for only a hundred dollars more, i.e. $899. As part of pre-orders, both models will be available on September 9, 2022. The iPhone 14 will enter the market on September 16, and the iPhone 14 Plus on October 7.
