I bought the iPhone 14 Plus, that is, the iPhone that is said to be a flop because there is no interest in it and Apple is reducing its production. But I didn't buy it for myself. Its maximum potential is rather usable in the hands of an older user, and I'll explain why right now.

Take a 60-year-old who has owned an iPhone 7 Plus until now. It was a great phone for its time, and it was even the first to bring two lenses that it used to shoot Portraits. Apple introduced it in 2016, when they gave it the A10 Fusion chip, which is still its only flaw today. The phone itself would last for a long time, but it no longer supports iOS 16, which simply means that its applications will soon stop working. The biggest problem is especially with regard to banking, where the application of one unnamed bank already requires at least iOS 15.

For this reason, it is therefore a problem to use older devices, even if only in the case of emojis. When an older user is presented with a list of scribbles on the display instead of the desired one, it can easily confuse them. Then there is the memory, where 32 GB is really not enough. With the increasing quality of cameras and the flood of photos of grandchildren, trips and pets, it fills up very quickly. At the same time, he doesn't want to delete anything, because this is actually the most important thing that he wants to always have with him. Yes, there is an iCloud option, but that goes hand-in-hand with the size of the FUP on a mobile plan, which an elderly person only needs to have within a few GB, which would eat up a lot when viewing photos and downloading them off Wi-Fi. In addition, there is a clear resistance to anything that is pre-paid in some way and is something imaginary.

Why a big phone?

The iPhone 7 Plus (as well as the iPhone 8 Plus, which will still launch iOS 16) is actually almost the same size as the iPhone 14 Plus. The differences are only a few millimeters in all directions and weight. Of course, older people have worse eyesight, and limiting myself to a 6,1" display seemed unnecessary in this regard, knowing that even in the iPhone 7 Plus, the bold font was set to the maximum size with an enlarged display (and indeed on the 5,5, 13" display did not look nice). Reaching for the iPhone 14 Pro Max didn't make much sense, especially considering the price, which across the Internet is actually even higher than the iPhone 12 Plus. It would make more sense to go for the iPhone 64 Pro Max, but it basically only has XNUMXGB of memory, while the higher version is no longer worth so much financially in contrast to everything that has been said.

Another thing to consider is longevity. Apple will naturally support current news for as long as possible. It is therefore a question of whether it will not replace the iPhone 13, 13 Pro and 14 at the same time, when they actually have the same chip, but even so, it is a prospect of some six years. It would be one year less for the iPhone 12, but two for the iPhone XNUMX, so in theory, of course, it depends on where the technologies will go and how demanding they will be on performance.

For the feeling

This investment of CZK 30 will last for some 6 years of the phone's lifespan. You may have to invest in a battery replacement, but that's probably the least of it. In addition, the owner buys a current device, which is not two years old, but the latest possible, so the feeling of having "the best" on the market is also appropriately warm. Such a user simply does not know the limitations of the model compared to others.

Explaining what the refresh rate is and what it looks like on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and how it looks on the iPhone 14 Plus was pointless. I can see it, but older and tired eyes do not. If the phone lacked one more camera, it would actually be nice, because there wouldn't be another distracting element. And paradoxically, it is also appreciated that there are aluminum frames that slide less, which is really true.

For us tech geeks, the iPhone 14 Plus is bad. It can't stand a comparison even with last year's iPhone 13 Pro Max, and compared to the basic iPhone 13 series, it also doesn't offer much. But if you go back in history, it clearly makes sense to owners of iPhones with the nickname Plus. And I agree with them. The only thing that is simply wrong here is the price, but we can't think of anything about it.
