If you've been following our magazine since morning, you certainly didn't miss the unboxing of the new iPhone 13 Pro a few minutes ago, which officially went on sale today, at 8:00 a.m. This means that we managed to capture one new iPhone 13 Pro for the editorial office. I've been touching this new model for some time now and somehow organizing my thoughts in my head while writing these first impressions. They say that first impressions are the most important when evaluating new things, and in this article you can be sure that everything that is on my tongue will appear in this text.

To tell the truth, the first time I took the iPhone 13 Pro in my hand, I had the same feeling as last year with the iPhone 12 Pro. It's a modern, sharp-edged design feel that's simply unique. On the other hand, it must be mentioned that I still own an older iPhone XS with rounded edges, and therefore the "sharp" design is simply unusual for me. It is clear that if a person who has owned an iPhone 13 Pro for a year picks up the new iPhone 12 Pro, they will not recognize any changes. But let's face it, which of the iPhone 12 Pro owners will switch to the new "Pro" this year? Maybe there are a few enthusiasts who change their iPhone every year, or a user who is not used to a certain size and wants to buy a different one. Of course, for the average user, replacing last year's model with this year's model does not make sense.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro

Thanks to the sharp edges, the iPhone really feels great in the hand. Many individuals who have not yet held the iPhone 12 and newer in their hands think that these sharp edges must cut into the skin. But the opposite is true - we can't talk about any notch, and what's more, these newer models hold much more securely, without the feeling that the iPhone might slip out of your hand. It's because of this feeling that I have to keep a case on my iPhone XS because I'm afraid I might drop it without it. In general, the iPhone 13s are a little sturdier this year, and that's because they're slightly thicker and a little more likely heavier. On paper, these are small differences, in any case, after holding it in your hand, you can easily recognize it. Personally, I don't mind at all that this year's iPhones are a little thicker, because they just hold better for me, and Apple could have used larger batteries as a benefit.

In last year's first impressions, I mentioned that the 12 Pro is an absolutely ideal device, in terms of size. This year I can confirm this statement, but I certainly wouldn't fight for it anymore. This does not mean that the iPhone 13 Pro is small, i.e. that it does not suit me. Over time, however, I can somehow imagine that I could easily hold something even bigger in my hand, that is, something called the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Of course, many of you will say that this is a "paddle", but personally, I'm starting to lean more and more towards this model. And who knows, maybe in a year's time with the review of the iPhone 14 Pro, if it is the same size, I will talk about the fact that I would already like the largest variant. If I were to compare the jump from the iPhone XS to the iPhone 13 Pro, I got used to it immediately, within a few minutes.

If I had to mention the one thing that Apple does best with its phones, it is without hesitation the display - that is, if we take into account the things that can be seen at first glance, not the internals. Every time I have the opportunity to turn on the new iPhone for the first time, my chin falls off the screen. In the very first seconds, I can notice the differences compared to my current iPhone XS, especially in terms of brightness. As soon as you use the brand new Apple phone for the first few minutes, you say to yourself yes, I want to look at such a display for the next few years. Of course, it is always much easier to get used to better ones. So when I pick up my iPhone XS again, I wonder how I can actually work with it. So, even if the wow effect is absent during the presentation of the new iPhones, it will appear during the first minutes of use.

This year, we also got a smaller cut-out for Face ID in the upper part of the display. Personally, I've never had the slightest problem with the cutout, and I know you've probably all been waiting for a reduction. But quite frankly, from a design point of view, I like the cut-out on older iPhones much more than, for example, the round hole on Android phones. In short and simply, I can't get rid of the belief that the bullet belongs to Android, and that it has nothing to do with the iPhone. By that I mean that a 20% smaller cutout is great, of course. However, if in the future Apple were to make the cutout even smaller, so that it would become almost a square, I would not be thrilled at all, on the contrary. So in the coming years, I would definitely welcome an iPhone either with the existing cutout or completely without it.

We cannot deny the above-standard performance that Apple offers every year in its flagships. After a few minutes of use, I classically decided to start doing everything possible on the iPhone 13 Pro - from downloading new apps to browsing the web to watching YouTube videos. As expected, I didn't notice any jams or other problems. So the A15 Bionic chip is really powerful, and on top of that, I can say with a cool head that 6 GB of RAM will be enough this year as well. So as for a summary of first impressions, I can say that I am really excited. The jump between the iPhone XS and the iPhone 13 Pro is a bit more pronounced again, and I'm starting to think about switching again. You will be able to read the complete review in our magazine in a few days.
