Vratislav Holub We are only a few weeks away from the presentation of the new iPhone 13, and we already know quite a bit of information about the upcoming innovations that should appear in this year's series. But currently, the respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, drawing from well-known sources, came up with extremely interesting news. According to his information, Apple is going to equip its new line of phones with the possibility of communication with so-called LEO satellites. These orbit in a low orbit and would thus enable apple-pickers, for example, to call or send a message even without the presence of a signal from the operator.

To implement this innovation, Apple worked together with Qualcomm, which built the option into the X60 chip. At the same time, there is information that iPhones could be ahead of their competition in this direction. Other manufacturers will probably wait until 2022 for the arrival of the X65 chip. Although it all sounds almost perfect, there is one major catch. For the time being, it is not at all clear how the communication of iPhones with satellites in low orbit will take place, or whether this function will, for example, be charged for or not. One tricky question still presents itself. Will only Apple services such as iMessage and Facetime work this way without a signal, or will the trick also apply to standard phone calls and text messages? Unfortunately, we don't have the answers yet.

Nevertheless, this is not the very first mention of iPhone communication with the aforementioned satellites. The Bloomberg portal already talked about the possible use in 2019. But back then, practically no one paid much attention to these reports. Analyst Kuo subsequently adds that Apple has allegedly advanced this technology to a completely new level, thanks to which it will be able to incorporate it into its other products in a capable form. In this direction, there have been mentions of apple smart glasses and the Apple Car.

The already mentioned cooperation between Apple and Qualcomm also speaks of the progress of technology. It is Qualcomm that supplies similar chips to a number of mobile phone and tablet manufacturers, which may indicate that a similar gadget may very soon become a commonly used standard. If the information from Kuo is true and the novelty will indeed be reflected in the iPhone 13, then we should soon learn other necessary information. The new generation of Apple phones should be presented during the traditional September keynote.

Anyway, an interesting step, probably in the right direction. If the price for a phone call or an SMS message were in the normal price range, these services could be used by company and security personnel, such as rescue units who work in the field where there is no signal.
There are still many places in our territory that are not covered by a signal from any of the operators, but still people live there who may need help, for example ambulances or the police. A satellite call feature wouldn't be a bad thing in this situation anyway.
Few of the common people buy a satellite phone that is simply not used in everyday life. However, as an over-the-top feature for a regular mobile phone, this is a very good idea
