In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

The arrival of the 16″ MacBook Pro is probably around the corner

Last year we saw the introduction of a machine that is very popular today. We are, of course, talking about the 16″ MacBook Pro, which returned the apple laptop to its former glory after many years of suffering. With this model, Apple has finally abandoned the so-called butterfly keyboards, which have been replaced by the Magic Keyboard, which works on a more reliable scissor mechanism. In the case of this model, the Californian giant solved the cooling much better, was able to reduce the display frames and improved the speakers along with the microphone.

This product entered the market at the end of November last year. Therefore, in recent months, the apple community has started arguing about when we will get an updated version for this year. Coincidentally, last week Apple updated its Bootcamp software, which is used to start the Windows operating system on Mac as well, and very interesting information appeared in the notes for the update itself. The Californian giant mentions that a bug has been fixed due to which Bootcamp itself was not stable in case of high processor load. And this exact bug has reportedly been fixed for the 13″ MacBook Pro (2020) and the 16″ MacBook Pro from 2019 and 2020.

It is therefore a peculiarity that a bug has been corrected for a product that we have not seen a single one of before. Of course, this could just be a mistake on the part of the apple company. However, most Apple fans are inclined to the second option, namely that we are only a few weeks away from the presentation of the updated version of the 16″ MacBook. According to the well-known leaker Jon Prosser, we will see the next Apple keynote on November 17, when Apple should show off for the first time ever a Mac equipped with an Apple Silicon ARM chip. So it is possible that on this occasion we will also see an updated 16″ MacBook Pro. However, we will still have to wait for more information.

Apple showed off the trailer for the Becoming You documentary

The Californian giant is constantly working on its streaming platform  TV+, which is primarily focused on original content. Although Apple cannot match the number of subscribers to its competition, some of the titles that we can find in its offer are really great, which is confirmed by the viewers themselves. Today, the apple company showed us a trailer for the upcoming documentary series becoming you, in which we get a glimpse into the world of children and directly see how children gradually develop.

The series will be available on  TV+ as early as November 13, and specifically in it we will encounter 100 children from ten countries around the world. During the story itself, we will see the lives of the children themselves and see how they learn to think and speak in their native language.

iPhone 12 in a drop test. Will the new models survive a drop of almost two meters onto the pavement?

Last week, the first two models from the latest generation of Apple phones went on sale. Specifically, it is the 6,1″ iPhone 12 and the same size iPhone 12 Pro. We have talked about the features and news of these latest pieces several times. But what is their resistance? That's exactly what they looked at in the latest drop test and on the Allstate Protection Plans channel, where they gave iPhones a hard time.

iPhone 12:

This year's generation comes with a novelty called Ceramic Shield. This is a significantly more durable front glass of the display, which makes the iPhone up to four times more resistant to damage in the event of a fall than its predecessors. But can these promises be trusted? In the aforementioned test, the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro were dropped from a height of 6 feet, i.e. about 182 centimeters, and the results were quite surprising in the end.

When the iPhone 12 fell with the display to the ground on the pavement from the aforementioned height, it got minor cracks and scuffed edges, which caused rather sharp scratches to appear on it. However, according to Allstate, the result was significantly better than the iPhone 11 or the Samsung Galaxy S20. Then follow the test of the Pro version, which is 25 grams heavier. His fall was already significantly worse, because the lower part of the windshield cracked. Despite this, the damage did not affect the functionality in any way and the iPhone 12 Pro could continue to be used without a single problem. Although the result of the Pro version was worse, it is still an improvement over the iPhone 11 Pro.

Subsequently, the apple phones were turned around and tested for durability in the event that the iPhone falls on its back. In this case, the iPhone 12 had slightly scuffed corners, but was otherwise intact. According to the authors themselves, the square design is behind the higher durability. In the case of the iPhone 12 Pro, the result was again worse. The rear glass cracked and came loose, and at the same time the lens of the ultra-wide-angle camera cracked. Although this is a relatively major damage, it did not affect the functionality of the iPhone in any way.

Pro iPhone 12:

The same test was carried out when the phone was dropped on the edge. In this case, this year's iPhones suffered "only" scuffs and light scratches, but were still fully functional. It is therefore evident that the durability of Apple phones has moved forward compared to last year's generation. But it is necessary to realize that it is still relatively easy to damage the iPhone by falling, and therefore we should always use some kind of protective case.
