The harmfulness of smart mobile phones in terms of radiation has already been described on many pages. The American telecommunications agency FCC set the standard for radio frequency emissions from mobile devices years ago. But the latest tests of one of the independent laboratories recently proved that the iPhone 11 Pro exceeds these limits more than twice. However, a number of different questions arose around the testing.

A California company called RF Exposure Lab reports that the iPhone 11 Pro exposes its owners to a SAR of 3,8W/kg. SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) indicates the amount of energy absorbed by the human body exposed to a radio frequency electromagnetic field. But the official FCC limit for SAR is 1,6W/kg. The mentioned laboratory allegedly performed the testing in accordance with the FCC directive according to which iPhones should be tested at a distance of 5 millimeters. However, the laboratory has not yet disclosed details regarding other testing methods. For example, the report does not indicate whether proximity sensors, which reduce RF power, were in use.

However, previous generations of iPhones did not avoid similar problems. Last year, for example, we were in this context they wrote about the iPhone 7. Exceeding the radiation limits was usually detected by independent laboratories, but control tests directly at the FCC proved that iPhones in this respect do not exceed the established standard in any way. In addition, the limits set by the FCC are set very low, and testing is conducted in a worst-case scenario simulation.

The negative effect of high-frequency radiation on human health has not yet been unequivocally proven. The US Food and Drug Administration has been dealing with relevant studies for fifteen years. Some of these studies point to a partial effect, but unlike other types, this radiation is not life-threatening either according to the FDA or the World Health Organization.
