According to the data of the analytical company Strategy Analytics iPad sales increased again in the fourth quarter of 2018. Indeed, from 13,2 million iPads sold in the same period in 2017, this number rose to 14,5 million, which represents an increase of approximately 10%.
Strategy Analytics estimates the average price of an iPad at $463, which is $18 more than last year. This is no surprise, however, as Apple increased the price of iPad Pros in 2018. In 2017, the cheapest model cost $649, while the 2018 iPad Pro starts at $799. Apple still holds the lead in the number of tablets sold, as its main competitor Samsung sold around 7,5 million tablets, which is only half the number of the apple company.
As for the operating system, Android is the leader here, covering 60 percent of the entire tablet market. But this number is understandable, because tablets with Android can be found for literally a few hundred, while the cheapest iPad costs nine thousand. Total iPad revenue rose to $6,7 billion, a 17% increase over 2017.
So the iPad performs great, which cannot be said about the iPhone. Its sales fell by almost 2018 million in the last quarter of 10, which is a huge loss for Apple, which iPads probably have to catch up this year as well.
I've been on the fence about the iPad for a long time. I was not clear about the purpose of the device. I was worried it was only good for games. A friend had an iPad Pro for years and I thought the usage was questionable. Now I bought an iPad 2018 128GB at the end of December. I immediately bought a ZAGG backlit keyboard for 2600 crowns. After more than a month, I'm excited. I have full Word and Excel in it, they work just like on PC. If I don't play games or watch TV, last 3 days. I haven't used the old Linux laptop since. At work, I connected a printer and a scanner to it via wifi. The ZAGG keyboard also sucks. I already understand that a lot of people use it to replace a laptop. I have a Mac for programming and an iPad for everything else. Incredibly mobile, immediately ready to work. I don't regret a single crown. In addition, I bought it on sale for 10200. Android at that price offers good machines on paper, but the iPad just works great. Android phones are probably better, but tablets by no means. And with the fact that I do everything on the iPad, the tiny SE is fine for me.
There you go. The iPad is a "key" device for me. If I had to decide which one device to let men use, the iPad would win. It's still quite mobile and at the same time did most things quite well on it.
