Apple paid a lot of attention to the iPadOS 15 operating system at WWDC21. But according to many, he ended up beyond their expectations. Although it pushes the functionality of the iPad further, but still not as far as many hoped. Apple tablets have been running the iOS operating system since the launch of the first iPad in 2010, which changed only in 2019. So the history of the iPadOS operating system itself is short, but hopefully it will continue to develop.

iPadOS 13

The first version of the iPadOS operating system for all users was released on September 24, 2019. It is basically a specially modified version of the iOS mobile operating system, where Apple has worked even more on multitasking functions or support for peripherals, such as an external hardware keyboard or mouse. The first version of the operating system for apple tablets was called iPadOS 13. The iPadOS 13 operating system brought news in the form of a system-wide dark mode, improved multitasking, the aforementioned support for external hardware and storage, or perhaps a redesigned Safari browser.

iPadOS 14

iPadOS 13 was succeeded in September 2020 by the iPadOS 14 operating system, which still runs in its official version on Apple tablets today. It has undergone a redesign of the Siri interface or, for example, incoming calls, while the elements of these interfaces have acquired a much more compact form. The Photos application has been redesigned and received a sidebar for better work and orientation, new features to protect user privacy have been added to Safari and the App Store, the ability to pin messages has been added to the native Messages, group conversations have been improved, and the Today view has a new option adding widgets. Automation control for the Home app has also been added to the Control Center, and Apple Pencil support has been improved and expanded system-wide.

iPadOS 15

The latest addition to Apple's family of tablet operating systems is iPadOS 15. It is currently only available in its developer beta version, with a version for all users expected to be released in September after the fall Keynote. In iPadOS 15, users will be able to add widgets to the desktop, and multitasking functions will be significantly improved. The option to manage the desktop, the Application Library, the native Translate application, the ability to delete individual pages of the desktop, improved notes and the Quick Note feature, which allows you to start writing a note from virtually anywhere, have been added. Like other new operating systems from Apple, iPadOS 15 will also offer the Focus function.
