The upgrade is aimed more at advanced users who use the iPad as a portable accessory to their Mac. It has a number of features that although you won't get an Air in the iPad, the editor stands behind the motto that the Air, which is significantly cheaper, will be a better solution for most people.
Egadget has a few gripes with the M1 chip's performance, noting that the shift isn't as huge as you'd expect. And that may be the problem, because everyone has high expectations. Last year's model clocked in at 14 minutes and 20 seconds for the same video export process, the new one was just 8 seconds faster in the same process.
