Apple made a very interesting move within its tablet portfolio. The iPad Air will no longer see a third generation, as it is being replaced by the "iPad", which will act as a gateway to the Apple world of tablets. It is a slightly improved iPad Air 2, but it gets a very aggressive price tag: 10 crowns.
The new 9,7-inch iPad will sit alongside the same-sized and even larger iPad Pro, but won't get any of their previously exclusive features (such as support for the Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard or True Tone).
Although it is obviously a successor to the iPad Air 2, the new iPad will paradoxically be 1,4 millimeters thicker and a few grams heavier. Apple describes the Retina display here as "brighter", which will probably be an improvement over the Air 2. The processor will be clearly better - Apple replaced the original A8X with a more powerful A9 chip, which is used in the older iPhone 6S.
However, what is probably most important about the new 9,7-inch iPad is its price. At 10 crowns for the 990GB Wi-Fi version, it is the cheapest iPad in the entire range (iPad mini 32 is more expensive). The iPad is available in silver, gold and space gray, and Apple clearly wants to hit new customers with an aggressive pricing policy, or offer an interesting alternative for schools.
The iPad mini 4 is more expensive than the above-mentioned iPad mainly because Apple decided to keep only one size in the menu, namely 128 GB. It starts at 12 crowns. The new iPads are complemented by the new colors of the Smart Covers.
The iPad is actually the size and weight of the original iPad Air, which is fine for the price.
I noticed that the specification does not include an anti-reflective display like other iPads.
Yippee. There is an oleophobic layer in the technical specifications
Oleophobic layer and anti-reflective layer are 2 different things ;)
So, so. Does anyone know if the ipad air 2 had an anti-reflective layer or is this a new model?
As far as I read, it was a novelty for the iPad Air 2 - "A major innovation for the iPad Air 2 (that is not fully appreciated) is an anti-reflection coating on the cover glass that reduces ambient light reflections by about 3:1 …”
No iPad is truly anti-reflective, only a matte protective film will help... ;)
Probably nothing very interesting for Air2 owners, but I'm glad they didn't stop offering "cheap" tablets. The iPad Pro is useless to most people, and I was a bit worried that the cheaper machines would be cut entirely to make way for more expensive pieces.
for air2 owners, this means that they will no longer sell theirs for 13, but at most for 11 :D
And on the contrary, that they will last 2-3 years just fine ;-).
If you don't want to sacrifice thinness for a bit of performance, it doesn't have any :D
It is interesting to compare this iPad with the iPhone SE. The processor and disk are the same, I assume that the RAM is also the same, but the iPad is 100 euros cheaper (128 euros for the 90GB version).
I don't believe that the production costs of this iPad are much lower than the production costs of the iPhone SE :-)
But you have to compare the Cellular version of the iPad so that they are at least apparently comparable in cost :-) there it is more expensive compared to the iPhone SE.
Yes it is true :-)
In addition, you can't even make calls from the Cellular iPad. And the modem costs maybe 30 USD anyway, I'm exaggerating. The most expensive is the retina display on the iPad.
The iPad has always been cheaper compared to the iPhone, I don't know if it's because of miniaturization, or simply because of the low sales of the iPad, or, on the contrary, good sales of the iPhone ;-).
I figured the new Ipad has a bigger battery than the Air 2, that's why it's thicker. The Air 2 has 27 Wh and the new Ipad has 34 Wh?
However, the stated durability is the same. A slightly larger battery capacity may therefore be related to the fact that the older display installed is more energy-demanding.
hmm... That will probably be true. Apple really took a big step back with the display, see. latest article on the apple seller.
