Unlike iPhones, the new iPad tablet from Apple in the version with 3G is sold unblocked in the United States, so theoretically there is nothing to prevent its use in Czech meadows and groves. Hereby I can confirm that this is indeed the case and everything works without any problems, except for one minor obstacle.
As you all already know, the Apple iPad uses a new type of sim card, the so-called micro sim. It is nothing more than a scaled-down version of a classic sim card. In short, we will look at how to make your own at home and thus not have to wait for the Czech operators to offer it officially.
You will need nothing more than a file, scissors and a sim card. If you have an old sim card, in the case of O2, I recommend stopping by one of the stores for a new one. They have a smaller chip and there is no need to touch the card slot. Then just remove the excess plastic edge. The only thing you need to be careful about is maintaining the distance from the left and top to the center of the contact surface.
For an idea of what a micro sim card should look like, you can use the AT&T card that comes with the iPad. In the image below, you can see three sim cards side by side - an AT&T micro sim card, a cropped O2 sim card, and an original sim card. As you can see, everything fits perfectly.
Loading the micro sim card after inserting it into the iPad is automatic. To access the internet, just enter "internet" in Settings > Cellular data > APN Settings > APN. That's it, Apple iPad 3G with the Czech operator O2!
it's just a shame that the operator can't split one number into two cards :)
or at least have one card for the iPad and one normally in the phone...
and why not? go to the operator and have the SIM card copied to a new one
at that moment the first card becomes inactive... it is not possible to have two copies of one sim card with us..
I don't know about other operators, but T-mobile offers it as standard. It's called Twinkarta and it costs about 100 CZK per month. However, only one card can be active at a time.
I use it myself for example on a modem.
Now just have a faster net more. I don't want GPRS somehow.
Just get the iPad :) when I saw the prices in the Czech Republic and the Czech Republic, which would be 499 euros for 16GB, I immediately changed my mind... I have to figure out some way to get it here from the US so that I don't have to pay the tax, which will change the price of the iPad to the Czech Republic
I recommend Shipito.cz imports things from America and for a small fee :)
What is a small fee? How can I avoid duties and taxes using this service? Thanks.
creative: you will not get rid of taxes with the help of this service..
So it doesn't matter if ebay seller sends it or if I send it via shipito, right? So I don't see any difference.
I can confirm that the Internet also works with SIM TMO CZ. I adjusted the prepaid SIM to the required dimensions, inserted it into the iPad 3g, entered the APN and started using it without problems. :)
Did they have a shipito.cz fee? ... well, when I recalculated it, it will work out the same as in Slovakia :) shipito $399 ipad+19% tax+5% duty+other shipita fees
I have a question, with the iPad3G the internet only works on 3G networks or also on GPRS. possibly EDGE?
Jarko: of course GPRS and Edge also work there..
Díky
you can also write SMS from the iPad :) via SIM card :) and if I remember correctly, the iPad also has a microphone .. so it's only a matter of time before you make a lot of calls from the iPad :)
I have a question: I have a Telefonica O2 SIM, I have a flat rate with unlimited internet, I have the SIM in my iPhone. Is it possible to buy a new SIM card from O2, use the phone number I already have on my iPhone (so one number for two cards) and surf the internet on both iPhone and iPad without having to buy another flat rate/pay another fee for internet?
I confirm, just cut the SIM from the eye, it works with both T-mobile SIM and Vodafone
Lukáš: I don't know if it's possible with O2, but T-mobile provides this service, it's called SIM cloning, I have one cloned, but I don't recommend using it. Why? Because the data device (3G modem or iPad) simply eats SMS and missed calls. You can't have both devices on at the same time, you always have to switch at least one to airplane mode. Thus, if someone sends you an SMS or calls you while you are on the iPad, you will never know. Sometimes it happens when you have both devices with cloned SIMs turned on at the same time that they get into a state where they appear to be working, you have a full signal, but no one is contacting you, the only thing that helps is a restart or airplane mode and back to normal :- ( (unfortunately this is not the right way)
I would like to order an iPad from Germany, unfortunately it is not possible to order it on Apple.de to a CZ address, isn't there a service in Germany like shipito in the USA? Alternatively, would there be any other way to get the iPad from Germany to us?
So I also ordered an adapter for use in the norm. mobile... from Tonershop.cz
Anyone using an iPad 3G with a T-mobile card? Does Internet-tethering (i.e. sharing the Internet via the iPad SIM) work in the iPad the same way as in the iPhone?
MR: somewhere in the forum, some users with iPad 3G and T-Mobile have already appeared..
I would like to know if the U:fona SIM card will work in the iPad, that shouldn't be a problem, right?
I can't imagine holding it to my ear :-)
Dear Martin,
I cut and set the data card from O2 according to your instructions. It worked. I went abroad. The first day it worked (not roaming enabled). It didn't work the other day. Constant voice: Cannot connect to the internet... Data card and account in order. Verified by O2. Any idea how to break it up again? Thanks for the help.
hey
does ipad support internet tethering? If so, that's great. I'm drooling on a Macbook over an iPhone and I can't complain. You only pay online on your phone and you can also surf on your laptop. Thanks for the reply.

ATTENTION! in the Czech Republic, vodafone has already officially started selling micro sim cards, so you no longer have to cut and risk damaging the sim card.
hey, when I want to call someone else's phone, the i-pad says call not allowed and in the apn it forgets it wants the username and APN password, what do you not know
Hello everyone, I have a question... I'm going to the USA and I would like to buy an IPAD, but there are several types and I don't know if they all work in the Czech Republic and what about the regions?
thanks for advice
Hello, I wanted to ask if I have to have Internet (3G) activated on the SIM card.
So can you call from the brick? =D every page says something different about it :)
