Five and a half weeks after its release to the general public, the iOS 8 operating system is already installed on 52% of active iOS devices. This figure is official and was published in a special section of the App Store dedicated to developers. iOS 8's share increased by four percentage points in the past two weeks, after several weeks of stagnation.

During Apple's conference focusing on the new iPads on October 16, Apple boss Tim Cook said that iOS 8 was running on 48 percent of the devices three days earlier. Even then it was possible to notice that the adoption of this new mobile operating system slowed down considerably after the first few days. According to data from September 21, which was just four days after the release of the system, viz iOS 8 was already running on 46 percent of devices, which connect to the App Store.

A new spike in iOS 8 installs was triggered by the launch the first major update of this version of the system. iOS 8.1 with a number of new features and fixes can be installed by iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users from October 20. There are a number of valid reasons for installation. Among other things, this update brought the promised Apple Pay support, SMS Forwarding functions, Instant Hotspot and access to the beta version of iCloud Photo Library.

Apple's data on the expansion of individual versions of the system are based on App Store usage statistics and fairly accurately copy the data of the company MixPanel, which calculated the adoption of iOS 8 at 54 percent. The company's research also charted the increase in installs of the latest iOS version just after the release of iOS 8.1.

Unfortunately, this year's release of iOS 8 was not exactly the happiest and smoothest for Apple. There were an unusually high number of bugs in the system when it was officially launched. For example, due to a bug related to HealthKit, they were before launch iOS 8 pulled from the App Store all apps that integrated this feature.

However, Apple's problems did not end here. First system update to version Instead of bug fixes, iOS 8.0.1 brought others, and quite fatal. After installing this version, thousands of users of the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus discovered that mobile services and Touch ID did not work for them. So the update was immediately downloaded and then it was a new one was released, which already bore the designation iOS 8.0.2, and corrected the mentioned errors. The latest iOS 8.1 is already a much more stable system with fewer bugs, but the user still encounters minor flaws here and there.
