While iOS users are recovering from the confusing cast due to update failed 8.0.1, Apple is preparing the first major update labeled 8.1 and released its first beta for developers on Monday. It's available for all iOS 8 compatible devices, including Apple TV.

The first of a series of improvements are of a design nature. The widget icons in the Notification Center are larger, so it should be easier to navigate through third-party notifications. iBooks got a new icon that corresponds with the advertising materials used by Apple.

A minor but user-important step in iOS 8.1 is changing the name of the Recently Added folder to its original form. Once again, we can look forward to the Camera Roll, which users have been used to since the first iPhone. Apple is apparently responding to the confusion of users after big changes within the octal version of the Pictures app.

Most of the other new features are associated with the Settings app. The Keyboard section in iOS 8.1 hides the option to turn off voice dictation, which is currently quite easy to accidentally turn on due to the placement of the icon on the keyboard next to the spacebar. Other improvements can be found in the settings of applications downloaded from the App Store. There we will find a clearer interface, which will make it easier to check notifications, access to photos, GPS and the like.

Also new is a completely new settings section called Passbook, through which iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners will be able to manage the Apple Pay service. This means editing the added payment cards, selecting the default one, but also entering the default billing and delivery address, e-mail and phone.

Touch ID support for iPad is also an unconfirmed part of iOS 8.1. So far, Apple has not spoken about the possibility that, in addition to the iPhone, an apple tablet would also receive its touch sensor. However, developer Hamz Sood managed to reveal in the new beta mention just about this option. According to him, the iOS 8.1 beta contains this line: "Pay with iPad using Touch ID. With Apple Pay, you no longer need to type card numbers and shipping information." This information could be proof that the iPad will become the third type of device that will be able to pay using the new service Apple Pay.
