It's no secret that the jailbreak community often functions as a testing lab for Apple. Therefore, some improvements sometimes appear as new features in a new version of the operating system. Probably the best example is the new notifications and the notification center from iOS 5, which the developers at Apple took over from the existing application in Cydia to the letter, even hiring its author to help incorporate their form of notifications into iOS.
With each new iOS release, the need to jailbreak also diminishes, as the features that users call for and jailbreak for appear in the latest build of the operating system. iOS 7 brought a large number of such improvements, thanks to which unlocking an iPhone or other iOS device no longer makes sense. Let's take a closer look at them.
One of the most used tweaks from Cydia is without a doubt SBSettings, which can be known since the time of the first jailbreak. SBSettings it offered a menu with buttons to quickly turn off/on Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, screen lock, airplane mode, backlight settings and more. For many, one of the main reasons to install a jailbreak. However, in iOS 7, Apple introduced the Control Center, which will offer most of the features of the aforementioned tweak and offer a little more.
In addition to five buttons (Wi-Fi, Airplane, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, Screen Lock), the Control Center also hides brightness settings, player control, AirPlay and AirDrop, and four shortcuts, namely turning on the LED, Clock, Calculator and Camera applications. Thanks to this menu, you no longer need to keep the listed applications on the first screen for quick access, and you will probably visit Settings less often.
Another significant change concerns the multitasking bar, which Apple has redesigned to be full-screen. Now, instead of useless icons, it also offers a live preview of the application and the option to close it with one swipe. It worked in a similar way Auxo from Cydia, however, Apple implemented the function more elegantly in its own style, which goes hand in hand with the new graphical interface.
The third significant innovation is a new tab in the Notification Center called Today. It contains important information relevant to the current day with a brief overview of the following day. The Today tab displays, in addition to the time and date, the weather in text form, a list of appointments and reminders, and sometimes the traffic situation. Bookmark is Apple's answer to Google Now, which isn't nearly as informative, but it's a good start. They have been popular among jailbreak apps for a similar purpose IntelliScreen whether LockInfo, which displayed weather, agenda, tasks and more on the lock screen. The advantage was the integration of some third-party applications, for example, it was possible to check off tasks from Todo. Today, the bookmark can't do as much as the aforementioned applications from Cydia, but it is sufficient for less demanding users.
[do action=”citation”]Undoubtedly, there will still be those who do not allow jailbreak.[/do]
In addition, there are a number of other minor improvements in iOS 7, such as the current clock on the app icon (and the weather app may also get a similar feature), unlimited folders, a more usable Safari with the Omnibar without being limited to eight open pages, and more. Unfortunately, on the other hand, we didn't get features like quick replying to messages without having to open the app, which the BiteSMS jailbreak tweak offers.
Undoubtedly, there will still be those who do not allow jailbreak, after all, the possibility to modify the operating system in their own image has something in it. The price for such adjustments is usually system instability or reduced battery life. Unfortunately, pirates won't just give up their jailbreak, which allows them to run cracked apps. For everyone else, however, iOS 7 is a great opportunity to say goodbye to Cydia once and for all. In its seventh iteration, the mobile operating system has really matured, even in terms of features, and there have been fewer reasons to deal with jailbreaking at all. And how are you doing with the jailbreak?
I have never had a jailbreak and I don't even need it, I have the few euros for applications.
jjj 70E for Tomto is really a few euros for a student with no income -_-
This is a really excellent argument.
It's just theft like any other.
I don't have it, so I steal it? Some might say it's just an app. But where does it stop? Then why not steal classmates' laptops or cars?
The word just bothers me there. I'm not a developer but damn the hard work behind it should be appreciated somehow. All the more so because it is someone's livelihood. And navigation. I bought a Navigon 3 years ago and it's quiet. But now I use Waze more. Or does the student not even have internet on his phone? There are also free alternatives. And the student should also think about how much he will pay for drinks, booze and nonsense.
That should have been more for the first post, I'm just going to elaborate on yours.
In that case, a student with no income probably doesn't need a TomTom, right? If he doesn't have money, he doesn't have anything to go somewhere, and if he goes somewhere once a year, some kind of free navigation is enough for him, like the one in Google maps or even those from Apple
Student with no income has an iPhone? From dad? Great, let him buy a TomTom if he needs one. Stealing an app is total theft. If I were a developer, I would personally come to delete the app from your phone and report you to the police.
If you are a student without income, why do you need a TomTom car navigation? :D Or petrol/diesel is out of the question? :D You probably travel a lot when you need navigation ;) No offense :)
I also didn't want to buy this one, I have be.on.road which is free including some basic maps of probably the whole world. I drive it and then I didn't have the slightest problem :)
And is he studying this?
A student definitely needs navigation for his studies, and the free ones from Apple or Google are not enough for him :)
I think that for a typical JB owner in the Czech Republic, JB is an essential necessity, even if he doesn't need any applications. :-D :-D :-D
Like every year: "iOS [4,5,6,7] is here, no need for JB". I'm afraid that the statement: "For everyone else, however, iOS 7 is a great opportunity to say goodbye to Cydia once and for all" is lying to my pocket. JB != warez... If JB becomes available, I will give it mainly because of SwipeSelection, without which I can no longer imagine working on an iPad or iPhone...
The tech "few" gadgets that iOS 7 brings are quite small compared to what the tweaks available in Cydia offer.
SBSettings – Why do I need only 5 (so far unconfigurable shortcuts) when I can have as many as I need and exactly the ones I need, not all of them, as I need DND, Bluetooth or Orientation lock.
Activator – iOS 7 will bring new gestures, but then it doesn't look like these couple of gestures will be able to replace Activator.
f.lux – the ideal helper for night use.
iAnnounce – I have the phone language in English, but most of the names are in Czech, this tweak tells me in Czech (or any language I set) who is calling me, when I have the headphones in my ears and the phone in my pocket, priceless.
iFile – not everyone needs access to all files on the phone, but this browser, FTP client, dropbox client…. has no competition!
MapsOpener - will open google maps instead of native ones, WHEN will Apple finally enable this by default? I want to choose which application handles my calendar, email, music...
PushTone - I choose the notification tone myself for each application
SwipeSelection – has already been mentioned, ideal for writing and minor text editing
SwipeBright - taken from Android, when after swiping your finger on the status bar the brightness of the display changes, why take up more space in the new Control Center?
WifiPasswords – allows viewing of all wifi passwords on the phone and their simple backup
xpandr - instantly replace abbreviations with their full meaning and I don't have to give a space for confirmation
etc... for me there is still enough that is missing in iOS 7 for "perfection"
Jailbreak does not only mean stealing the application, as most people think, but also facilitating the use of the system itself.
I'm not saying that it might not come in handy sometimes, but I personally consider most of the features described above useless and I wouldn't even bother to set them up. It would make it more complicated for me to use than it would make it easier :). But that's probably about the fact that everyone has a different approach to control. Just a couple of examples - why constantly adjust the brightness when it works perfectly automatically (at least on ip5). It reacts quickly in both directions and since I have ip5 I have never needed to change it manually (with older ones - I admit it was worse).
Similarly, notifications – I only have the sounds turned on where I need it so that I know immediately. The rest rather annoys me and I have them turned off, or I just leave the info on the icon or lockscreen without sound. In other words, when it rings, I know that it will probably interest me, otherwise the phone doesn't bother me at all. And when I'm curious, I just look at the lockscreen. And so on (also turning on Wi-Fi or BT - I just have the phone turned on and it manages it by itself).
Personally, I am already aergic to applications (any platform - including PC) where there are a billion settings for a simple thing. It just has to be done properly and then there is nothing to solve :).
Even the new control center in ios7 seems useless to me. And I don't understand at all that it can be turned on from the lockscreen (fortunately, it can be turned off). The lock screen is the lock screen (i.e. the phone is locked and does not respond - only to unlock) and not the phone's opening.
Otherwise, it really is a clash of two philosophies.
Personally, it feels like I'm on the XDA-developers forum from my Android days. I would say that an ordinary iOS user did not use all the mentioned functions (if they asked him, I believe that he would say that he wanted them, but when he got them, he would not even set them (see set the notification sound for an individual application )). At least that was the case with all the Android users in my family before I bought them an iPhone. They immediately started using the smartphone with joy. On the other hand, I understand that comparing an iPhone 4(S) that costs 12 (9) thousand with an Android phone for 6 (7) thousand is bullshit, but not everyone appreciates the fact that with better hardware they get a display with a diagonal far exceeding the limit of pleasant grip (let alone control).
If I look at it from a developer's point of view, I completely understand them. It has already happened to us several times that we programmed a product that took a month to create, of which the last 10 days were programmed with such gadgets (that is, 1/3 of the time). After half a year, when the results of the analysis of how the product is used were evaluated, it was found that not even 0,5% of people use the gadgets (all of them), and only 2,4% of at least some of them. When you then calculate how much money was spent on the last 10 days of development, it was wasted money. And in my opinion, this is how Apple approaches it. In the number of iOS devices on the market, a few % have Jailbreak, most of them really only have it to be able to jailbreak apps.
I'm a student... I don't have money to buy apps. But I won't get JB because of instability and similar things. You can hardly save up for an iPhone, I won't spend money on apps either, many alternatives are free, or you have to wait for a discount.
Hahaha, that's bullshit. Everything should be tried, I have bought enough applications on Appstore so that I don't have to deal with JB. But it also offers a lot of other things than just iOS games... e.g. emulation of GBA games, etc. in short, if I don't have iOS 6.1.4, I already have it.
Jailbreak is for the poor.
:D Well, that's stupid shit.
I don't have JB but wtf? most of the apps are free there, I don't understand…
I would really like the synchronization of saved Wi-Fi networks between iDevices and Macbook, or at least the ability to view saved networks on the device incl. passwords :-(
I had the Jailbreak on my iPad mini for about 15 minutes :-D then I went back to z5 :-) somehow I wasn't excited ... Cydia could have been better developed :-) it's like I went back to the time of the XDA forum ... and still paying for unofficial tweaks me too I wasn't excited when the jailbreak doesn't currently come with every version of iOS :-) otherwise I've spent a little over 4500 crowns on the App Store to date :-) and I've had an ipad mini since Christmas and an iphone 5 in April. When I had Android, I used warez so half in half... If the application was interesting, I downloaded the cracked version or tried it for 15 minutes and bought it. What bothers me about Apple is that I can't return a z30 purchase in 5 minutes... I've already bought enough things on the app store and I would return those apps after 15 minutes because they didn't do what I imagined.
You just want to look at it from the point of view that the application costs 1-5 euros ... what is it today ... and the only thing that is extremely expensive is Navigation, but we also have lifetime data updates for that ... Cracked versions often do not have the latest maps and app version…
Respectively, why do iOS devices have so many only applications??? Because apple has a few well-optimized devices without system fragmentation and also a well-paying clientele. An iOS app will be made and we have a 97 percent chance that our app will not be used by pirates. For Android, I'd say it's the exact opposite :-D 97 percent pirates and 3 percent honest :-D
I have JB, but only because of the need to unlock. I think there are a lot of people who have an iPhone imported from abroad and they simply cannot do without JB and unlock
JB on iOS7 will have Classic Look and g-sensor lock
Glass look keeps chasing the g-sensor and uses the flashlight like crazy,
the letter in the cut "lite" appears for the first time in Helvetica on the bank's order, so that they have something to write petit - this kind of insensitive nonsense that changes the entire meaning of the contract you concluded with the bank.
I don't want to lose SandBox, I don't want other applications to read data from sqlite databases where there are SMS and emails or contacts, I don't want to lose ASLR, I don't want every process to be able to create sub processes at will. So never because I like my data on my phone not on the internet.
"In the Control Center, it also hides brightness settings, player controls,
AirPlay and AirDrop and four shortcuts, namely turning on the LED, applications
Clock, Calculator and Camera.'
About 100 functions in one place directly from the locscreen on h.., and that's why I...
It will be quite a shock compared to the existing system.
"for example, the current time on the application icon (and the weather application may also get a similar function)"
Android here we cooommme :(
Well, the discussion about prices seems strange to me. How much does an Iphone cost and how many apps?? It's like someone buying a Mercedes CL 63 AMG and putting LPG in it. He must be a psychiatric patient!!! Otherwise, if someone is benefiting from JB, let them buy it. Why not if he has the chance and wants to?? I personally don't see the reason.
the most important advantage of a jailbreak is direct access to files and copying from the computer what/where/how I want. Not through tunes
