Jan Zdarsa Apple keeps its promises and officially releases the new iOS 4 today as expected. Starting today, you can install iOS 4 directly from iTunes.
To install iOS 4 you will need to install the latest version of iTunes 9.2. After that, you can already click the Check for Update button and install the brand new iOS 4.
iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 1st generation limitations
As previously announced, multitasking doesn't really work on the iPhone 3G. If you still want to use multitasking, you'll have to look for a jailbreak. You will also not be able to set the wallpaper under the icons.
What iOS 4 brings
In addition to these two functions, there are new features such as folders, thanks to which you can organize your iPhone screen. However, more improvements and novelties are appearing, so I recommend our two previous articles:

UPDATE #1 – The iOS 4 released today is the same version as the Golden Master released a few weeks ago. If you have already installed iOS 4, you do not need to install anything today. Both iOS 4 are identical exactly as we informed you earlier.

UPDATE #3 – So there is a small change compared to Golden Master in iOS 4 released today. It's not a big change though, Apple just removed the Game Center app from this release and plans to re-add it to iOS 4 this fall.

I have the latest version of iTunes, I connected my phone and it already shows iOS4, but I just can't update it.. I wouldn't go anywhere.. :(

At least I hope that an update will be released soon (even if I hope in vain) because on 3G it runs noticeably slower than 3.1.3 :/
So at the beginning it even seemed to me that iOS3 GM runs faster than 4 on 3.1.3G, but after 14 days of use it's terrible. Sometimes I want to hit the ground with it, how slow it is. I think the only meaningful update from the iPhone 100G is the iPhone 3 :D

Well, it's kind of "jerky" on 3G. I thought that thanks to the final iOS 4 it would pass, but I must have miscalculated :-/

Petr: as for the books, look at the article http://jablickar.cz/stanza-vice-jak-100-000-knih-pro-vas-iphone/, especially on Palmknihy.cz. As for Czech titles, there probably isn't a list, but try searching for "Czech" in itunes and you'll find a lot of Czech titles, maybe all of them :)

If it is true that both versions of iOS4 are the same, it means that Apple released an UNFINISHED OS (which I don't believe). In the GM version, I found several major errors, for example: changing the wallpaper, or a significantly increased demand on the battery - now my iPod barely lasts 1 day, and with OS3 it lasted at least 2 days with the same use!

I found a BUG in contact sorting. If I let contacts be displayed and sorted by Surname, First name, and then start Contacts, the first display is wrong and only after a while - about 6 seconds it gets sorted correctly.
It's the same with the battery for me. If I overdo it, the battery status in percentage is like a countdown, i.e. when I look at that percentage for a moment, it drops. Otherwise, suggesting words doesn't work for me there, for example in SMS. The word appears, but cannot be selected to type itself.
I recommend doing a DFU restore.. there is probably some mess from the past (maybe a jailbreak if there was one?)..

well, I also found a bug, when there are 2 apps in the folders and one is removed, the one remaining app remains in the folder

Wow ... so this afternoon I downloaded iTunes 9.2 and downloaded all available application updates and went for a beer :-) I'll be back, I'll stick the 3GSko (non JB) in the dock, I'll check Jablíčkáře.cz :-) I'll be scared by the comments here ... :-D I'll start iTunes downloaded iBooks here, hit "Download and Update" and took a 15 minute shower. I'll be back and it's 4.0 - great. It even set my homescreen and my own wallpaper from the lockscreen. The content is all on the phone as it was... including the morning sms from Vodafone that I'm at 90% data limit :-P

But I'll tell you... after the lost contacts and the backup I heard from people who installed the GM version and I was afraid of the error posts here :-)

although apple removed the application, Gm still has 396162364 bytes and final has 396281280, which is about 200kbytes more, how is it possible that they would do some last minute hacks?

Well, my findings: since Friday I had the GM version, which I was excited about after a few moments, but one major problem was after I slowly put exchange mail, contacts, applications, etc. into the phone. My phone seemed strangely stuck, twitching, etc. I noticed it most with text messages, when I clicked the "send" button, it jerked so badly. So I couldn't wait for today's final version, from which I expected this problem to disappear, I expected wrongly.. :-\ Which bothers me quite a bit, not to mention that after restoring to ofic. Push notifications disappeared from iOS4, I don't have them at all, it happened to someone, or it's simply not supposed to be there, which I strongly doubt... (I tried rebooting, of course) Thanks for the answers.. :-)

Exactly.. It's just that at the beginning, when the phone is "empty", it behaves fine, but as soon as it starts to fill up, it's over.. That's how I see it, I'll give it a few more days on the ofiko version, but if it doesn't stop , so I cough on iOS4.. And have you also lost notifications? I don't use notifications much, but they worked for me on Facebook, then I turned them off... iOS4 really failed, at least for iP 3G, if they don't fix it in a few days, I'll go back to the three, I want a smooth system, it's enough for me to have Windows on my laptop. .
Do a DFU restore, then everything will definitely be fine..

How does the character countdown for SMS work for you? It is only shown to me if I have permission to display the subject of the message. Otherwise, no. And if I write something in that subject, it disappears too. it's a strange thing to me :-))

So I've had os4 gm on my 3gs for a week now and I'm completely satisfied, when recording I didn't restore the backup but registered it as new. If someone restored it with backups, then it can make a mess in the iPhone.
And try the procedure that is written here as a novelty through dfu mode. And then feel free to restore the backup. I didn't mind the settings, and the photos and the others I had saved and SMS didn't bother me, so I set it up again, but I believe that not everyone wants it :) so I'll use the guide that was newly published here ;)
I want to ask, are there any changes to sms? Receipts, business cards? And for calls - filtering of incoming/outgoing calls, is it possible to delete calls individually? Bt push contact?

well, I also have a problem with the installation of the new system, everything went well, only all the photos and pictures disappeared from my phone. I gave the option to restore from the backup, everything is fine, contacts, applications, notes, sms in the phone, only the photos are left, absolutely all of them have disappeared....:(
Don't you also have iOS4 in your 3GS 100% in Czech? I have Yesterday everywhere (sms, emails, calls) :))

When I turn it off with the home button, it turns off, but after double-clicking, I have all the applications that I used at the bottom of the list, and I have to turn them off with a long hold and a crash. This is quite impractical... Isn't there a simpler solution?
