As WWDC23 approaches, of course new and new information is coming about what news this mobile operating system for iPhones will bring. The latest news is that we should expect Apple's own application for writing a diary, i.e. journaling. But does it make sense if there is a Day One Journal?

I have been using the Day One app for 4 days, or about 083 years. This is one of the best solutions for writing personal records, whether it's about feelings, moods, keeping memories of what you did that day, where you were, who you met, etc. You can accompany everything with photos, tags, audio, there is an option to add data about position and movement as well. In addition, on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android.

The app has received several awards and considerable attention, as it was one of the first to bring a similar sense of journaling to mobile platforms. In addition, it also offers markdown, with the help of which you can stylize your entries in an exemplary way and then easily publish them directly from the application to the blog. It really has a lot of competition across the App Store, but it still clearly stands out. But now iOS 17 is coming and it might be fun. Or not?

Smart move by Apple

In iOS 17, according to the latest reports, an application for writing a diary should be added as another of those companies already pre-installed. And it makes sense. Indeed, journaling itself helps in many ways, such as reducing anxiety by describing your problems, increasing self-awareness, better regulating your emotions, etc.

But it helps more in personal development. You can talk about what you are struggling with, you can better understand what you want to achieve, write down short-term and long-term goals and how you achieve them, etc. There are also numerous confirming studies. Apple is interested in the mental health of its customers, and this has been speculated for quite some time, even with regard to its own meditation application. But for now only background sounds replace it, then there is Health, Fitness or concentration modes.

One app to rule them all

Apple should be working on diary apps as early as 2020, which is quite a long time for it to be just a "diary". In the case of Apple's own title, however, its connection with the company's system and applications will be a clear advantage with respect to the Health and Fitness titles. Their results will certainly be recorded in your diary and you will have everything in one place with the possibility of your own notes, photos, locations, etc.

The app will therefore have the potential to appeal to many owners of iPhones and other Apple products who do not yet use any app. For those who write records in existing applications, it will matter if Apple will also consider the possibility of import and export. It is Day One that allows export, so there would be a certain possibility of transition, but then it will depend on the correctness of the import. I definitely don't want to throw away those 11 years just to start using a company's native solution.
