We are not even a month away from the introduction of iOS 16. Of course, Apple will introduce it along with other systems at its opening keynote at the WWDC22 developer conference, where we will not only get information about its new features, but also what devices will support it. And the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus and the first iPhone SE will probably fall from this list.

Apple is known for exemplary operating system support for its devices. At the same time, he introduced the iPhone 6S back in 2015, so this September they will be 7 years old. The 1st generation iPhone SE then arrived in the spring of 2016. All three models are connected by the A9 chip, which will therefore most likely drop out of support for the upcoming system. But does it really bother anyone?

The current time is still enough

The age of the devices does not exclude the fact that they are still fully usable today. Of course, it's not for playing demanding games, it also depends a lot on the condition of the battery (which is not a problem to replace), but as a regular phone, at least the 6S still works great. You call, write an SMS, surf the web, check social networks, and take a snapshot here and there.

We own one of these pieces in the family, and it definitely still doesn't look like it should go to scrap metal. In the course of its life, it has managed to change to four different users, who have left their mark on it visually in different ways, but from the front it still looks good and actually up-to-date. This, of course, considering the appearance of the iPhone SE 3rd generation.

Precisely because this year Apple presented the third version of its SE model, it is not a problem to say goodbye to the first one (well, at least when the software page is updated). Although it is younger than the iPhone 6S, it is still based on the previous form factor, i.e. the one that brought the iPhone 5 and subsequently the iPhone 5S, from which this model directly departs. And yes, this device is indeed very retro.

7 years is really a long time

In the case of the 6S 7 models and in the case of the SE 1st generation 6 and a half years of support is truly something we do not see anywhere else in the mobile world. Apple could already support them with iOS 15 and no one would be angry. After all, it could have already done it with iOS 14 and it would still be the manufacturer that maintains support for its devices the longest of all.

Samsung announced this year that it will provide 4 years of Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates to its current and newly released Galaxy phones. This is unprecedented in the field of Android devices, as even Google itself only provides its Pixels with 3 years of system updates and 4 years of security. And it stands behind both software and hardware, just like Apple. At the same time, only two years of Android version updates are common.
